📢 PPSC OPEN PLAY PLAYER GROUPING & DUPR GUIDELINES
At PPSC, we strive to provide one of the best Open Play experiences for all players.
Unlike many Open Play formats where a match can end in just a few minutes and players must immediately leave the court, PPSC provides a fair 15-minute court time per match, ensuring everyone gets quality playing time and a better overall experience.
To make Open Play enjoyable and competitive for everyone, we work hard to group players according to their skill levels. Our goal is to create balanced games where players can learn, improve, and have fun.
DUPR Reliability Score Below 60%
Players with a DUPR Reliability Score below 60% may choose the level they wish to join. However, to maintain fair and balanced play:
Open Play Marshals will monitor court assignments and player levels.
We encourage all participants to help us maintain balanced groups.
If a player appears significantly above or below the level they registered for, we may make adjustments.
For Novice Players
If you encounter a player who appears too strong for the Novice level, please notify a PPSC Marshal or Admin Staff so we can assess and move them to a more appropriate group if necessary.
For Intermediate & Advanced Players
If you believe a player would have a better experience in the Novice category, please let a PPSC Marshal or Admin Staff know so we can review their placement.
Challenge Court –
The Challenge Court serves two important purposes:
***Helps players record rated DUPR matches.
***Allows players to be reassessed if they want to move up to a higher skill level.
This system helps ensure that player groupings remain accurate and that everyone has a fair opportunity to compete at the appropriate level.
📢 PPSC DUPR-Based Open Play Implementation
To ensure fair play, proper skill matching, and a better experience for all players, PPSC will be implementing DUPR-based Open Play sessions.
Players will be grouped by DUPR rating to help maintain balanced games and encourage player development at every level.
Important Notice
If your DUPR Reliability Score is below 60%, your rating will be considered unreliable and may not accurately reflect your current skill level. In such cases, the PPSC Organizing Team will conduct a manual assessment and assign you to the most appropriate Open Play group.
Skill Level Guidelines
2.00 – 2.99 (Beginner)
Learning basic rules, scoring, and court positioning
Developing fundamental strokes
Participating in short and simple rallies
3.00 – 3.49 (Low Intermediate)
Improving stroke consistency
Developing directional control
Beginning to execute third-shot drops and basic strategies
3.50 – 3.99 (Solid Intermediate)
Sustaining longer d**k exchanges
Handling deeper serves and returns
Demonstrating improved court awareness and shot selection
4.00 – 4.99 (Advanced)
Executing tactical plays effectively
Using precise shot placement and varied spin
Anticipating opponents' strategies and movements
5.00 – 8.00 (Elite / Pro)
Competing at an elite or professional level
Demonstrating mastery of advanced shots and footwork
Maintaining exceptional consistency with minimal unforced errors

If this is your first time playing pickleball, don't worry—we've got you covered!
PPSC will allocate a dedicated court and assign a coach or experienced player to help you learn the fundamentals, including:
Basic pickleball rules
Scoring system
Court positioning and movement
Proper paddle grip and basic strokes
Open play etiquette and safety guidelines
Our goal is to help new players build confidence, learn the game properly, and enjoy their first pickleball experience.
