𝐁𝐍𝐇𝐒 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 4𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐰 𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐬

Six chess players from BNHS proudly represented the school in the 65th Araw ng Santo Tomas Chess Tournament, Intermediate Category, held at the Santo Tomas Central Gym. The event gathered 36 young contenders from different schools across Davao del Norte.

Standing out in the competition was Justine Viva, who emerged as the 4th placer after a series of intense matches. Also competing were Jade Alea Pauya, Euhjan Dologmanding, Rojan Mag-aso, Janiel Vidas, and Kid Norilla, who each showcased determination, strategic skill, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

The participation of BNHS players in this tournament highlights the school’s commitment to developing excellence in sports and inspiring students to excel both in academics and extracurricular activities. This event also served as valuable preparation for the upcoming Municipal Meet, where the team aims to build on their recent success.

04.02.2024 | Adamant to deliver excellent results, the 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺' 𝘀 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗔 𝗦𝗜𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗝𝗢𝗡 earns the delegation’s 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙜𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙖𝙡 on the second day of the 2024 Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) meet.

Wits, concentration, and grit became keys to Simbajon wisely outmaneuvering her opponents and delivering a flawless victory, winning all seven games in the Blitz Category for Secondary Girls. Her feat became sweeter as she unseats Tagum City’s DAVRAA champion for the same chess category last year.

In the nerve-wracking 22-round face-off at Davao Chong Hua High School, Simbajon dominates the checkered board and takes the lead among twenty-two contenders from the eleven delegations for the DAVRAA Meet. Key to her success is the unfailing and exceptional coaching skills of Jomar D. Barte, whose guidance and nurturing brought out the player’s best form.

“Her performance at this DAVRAA Meet 2024 improved from her silver performance in Blitz last year, now winning the gold. This is the result of our daily training and the support of her parents, who spent time and money joining local chess tournaments. In our daily training, we spent two hours a day strengthening her analysis in the middle game and end game. These are the two phases of chess where Princes needed to improve her skills based on my evaluation of her performance in the last DAVRAA meet,” Barte commented on the player’s performance improvement from last year’s athletic meet, further pointing out points for improvement.

Hailing from Grade 9-Amethyst at Panabo City National High School, an ecstatic yet alert Simbajon pushes through scheduled matches as she aims to secure further victory and obtain a spot for the Palarong Pambansa 2024.

Her stellar performance serves as a testament to the Champion Panaboone spirit of the Banana Magnates.
