Bohol Hosts 2nd Sandugo Karatedo Invitational Championship

A total of 485 participants from 29 karate clubs across the Visayas and Mindanao converged in Bohol for the 2nd Sandugo Karatedo Invitational Championship 2026, highlighting the province's commitment to youth development, sports excellence, and sports tourism.

This was after the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), led by Gov. Aris Aumentado, through the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO), successfully staged the two-day championship on July 18–19 at the Panglao Gymnasium as part of the Sandugo sa Bohol 2026 celebration.

Organized in partnership with Sphinx Shotokan Karate-Do International–Japan Karate Shotokan (SSKI-JKS), the tournament brought together karatekas from Bohol, Cebu City, Bogo City, Consolacion, and Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat to compete in various kata and kumite divisions, showcasing discipline, technical excellence, and true martial arts sportsmanship.

The championship also served as a venue for young and seasoned athletes to enhance their skills, foster camaraderie among participating clubs, and promote the values of respect, perseverance, and fair play through competitive karate.

Among the participating clubs, TKS-JKS Talibon recorded the highest number of entries and emerged as the overall top participating club. PUMA Sh*to Ryu Panglao placed first runner-up, followed by VISEMAK of Bogo City as second runner-up and KSA-JKS Cebu as third runner-up.

The event was spearheaded by Organizing Committee Chairman Jeffrey Lagasca, Referee Commission Chairman Juan Carlos Veguillas, and Tournament Organizer and SSKI-JKS Tagbilaran City Chief Instructor Sonny Alvarez Shihan, whose leadership contributed to the successful conduct of the championship.

Part of the "Tigi" stream of the Sandugo sa Bohol 2026 celebration, the championship reinforces PGBh's commitment to nurturing athletic excellence while creating opportunities for youth engagement and regional sports collaboration, in line with the PGBh Strategic Governance Roadmap.

The initiative also advances PGBh's agenda on human development by empowering young athletes through sports and character formation while supporting tourism by positioning the Bohol Island Geopark as a preferred destination for regional sporting events.

The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO), invites everyone to witness the Second Sandugo Karatedo Invitational Championship 2026 on July 18–19 at the Panglao Gym, Panglao, Bohol.

Held as part of the Sandugo festivities, the championship will gather elite and grassroots karatekas from across the region as they showcase their discipline, precision, and sportsmanship through exciting Kata and Kumite competitions.

In partnership with Sphinx Shotokan Karatedo International (SSKI-JKS), the event aims to strengthen grassroots sports development, provide young athletes with a competitive platform, and promote sports tourism in Bohol.

The Karatedo Invitational Championship is part of this year’s grander Sandugo sa Bohol celebration, organized under the TIGI Stream. The celebration takes place from June to August 2026 and is held in various venues across the Bohol Island Geopark.
