Founded by Korean Taekwondo Grandmaster Yang Ju Jeun, Father of Taekwondo in NorMin on May 3, 1988 Taekwondo (νƒœκΆŒλ„; 跆拳道; Korean pronunciation: [tΚ°Ι›kwʌndo])[a] is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. In Korean, tae (νƒœ, θ·†) means "to strike or break with foot"; kwon (ꢌ, ζ‹³) means "to strike or break with fist"; and do (도, 道) means "way", "method", or "art". Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as "the art of the foot and fist" or "the art of kicking and punching." It combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, and in some cases meditation and philosophy. In 1989, Taekwondo is the world's most popular martial art in terms of number of practitioners. Gyeorugi (pronounced [Ι‘jʌɾuΙ‘i]), a type of sparring, has been an Olympic event since 2000. Traditional taekwondo" typically refers to the martial art as it was established in the 1950s and 1960s in the South Korean military; in particular, the names and symbolism of the traditional patterns often refer to elements of Korean history.
2. Sport taekwondo" has evolved in the decades since then and has a somewhat different focus, especially in terms of its emphasis on speed and competition (as in Olympic sparring). Sport taekwondo is in turn subdivided into two main styles; One derives from Kukkiwon, the source of the sparring system sihap gyeorugi which is now an event at the summer Olympic Games and which is governed by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). The other comes from the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF).

We are grateful to have welcomed Team HBB Oroquieta,Team HBB Clarin and Team HBB Plaridel for a joint training and tune-up session with Cagayan de Oro Taekwondo Main Gym.

It was a great opportunity for our athletes to challenge one another, gain experience, learn from different styles, and help each other grow and improve.

Competition makes us better, but Taekwondo also gives us the opportunity to meet new people, build friendships, and grow together. ❀️

πŸ₯‹ HONORING THE FATHER OF TAEKWONDO IN NORTHERN MINDANAO πŸ‡΅πŸ‡­

A truly meaningful and memorable visit as Sir Vincent reunited with his former instructor and mentor, Grandmaster Yang Ju Jeun β€” the founder and the person who introduced and established Taekwondo in Northern Mindanao.

In 1988, Grandmaster Yang Ju Jeun laid the foundation of Taekwondo in Cagayan de Oro through the establishment of the Cagayan de Oro Taekwondo Association, beginning a legacy that would continue to shape and inspire generations of Taekwondo practitioners in the region.

Sir Vincent himself is part of that history, being one of the four first-batch Black Belts of the Cagayan de Oro Taekwondo Association in 1991, together with Ma’am Caroline Go Jeun, Ma’am Roselaine Tan, and Sir Anton Aberasture.

This reunion was not only an opportunity to catch up with a former instructor and mentor, but also a moment to honor the roots of the art that has become a lifelong passion and legacy for so many.

Sir Vincent also had the honor of presenting to Grandmaster Yang Ju Jeun the players who represented Cagayan de Oro and the Philippines at the 11th MBC Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships in Korea β€” a beautiful reminder of how far Taekwondo has come since it was first established in Northern Mindanao.

It is truly an honor to be in the presence of the Father of Taekwondo in Northern Mindanao and to witness how the foundation he laid in 1988 continues to live on through today's athletes, coaches, and generations of practitioners.

A special evening of recognition and celebration as we honor all our players who successfully took their promotion last August 22 and received their new belts tonight.

Congratulations to all our players and parents! Your hard work, dedication, and support have truly paid off.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the parents, families, and friends who shared their time, presence, and blessings with us tonight. Your generosity made this celebration even more meaningful.

Seeing our kids, coaches, and fellow members of the gym celebrate together filled our hearts with joy and gratitude. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful Taekwondo family.
