Baguio City- Camp John Hay is set to become a new marketplace for fresh cauliflower, broccoli, and tomatoes from Kabayan, Benguet following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on June 2, 2026, between John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) President and Chief Executive Officer Manjit Singh Reandi and Kabayan Mayor Rex Aquisan under the Vegetable Recovery and Marketing Assistance Project.

Through this agreement, will bring Kabayanโ€™s produce directly to Camp John Hay. The initiative provides temporary venues for farmers to market their harvests, supports recovery and redistribution activities, and promotes sustainable food systems.

It also ensures coordination and logistical support for effective implementation, while fostering community development, environmental responsibility, and inclusive economic participation. The MOU shall remain in effect until otherwise terminated by mutual agreement of the parties.

Aligned with JHMCโ€™s mandate to transform Camp John Hay into an investment destination, the partnership underscores the corporationโ€™s commitment to promoting economic and social development while supporting Benguetโ€™s farming communities.

โ€œThis collaboration strengthens our farmersโ€™ access to markets and ensures that consumers enjoy fresh, locally grown produce,โ€ said Mayor Aquinas. Baguio City โ€” The Philippine National Football Team will soon hold its regular training camp in the Summer Capital following the massive facelift of the football ground at the National Training Center of the Philippine Sports Commission in Teachers Camp.

PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio said the football pitch will soon be upgraded into a high-quality playing field.

โ€œIn the next few months, we will develop the football pitch here,โ€ Gregorio said.

โ€œThis will be a world-class football field. The turf here will be brand new,โ€ he added.

Gregorio also said that Baguio City has already been identified as a Regional Sports Center for football.

With the planned development, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is expected to conduct its high-altitude training camps in the mountainous city.

Baguio City โ€” Cordilleran mixed martial artists are set to carry the Philippine flag as they compete in the 4th Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) Championship from May 22 to 24 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Leading the Philippine campaign are Team Lakay fighters Carlo Alvarez and Jean Claude Saclag, who will represent the country against some of Asiaโ€™s top amateur MMA athletes.

Also part of the national squad are Lions Nation MMA standouts Jeremy Pacatiw, Stephen Loman and Gina Iniong-Araos.

The athletes are members of the Nasyonal Mixed Martial Arts Pederasyon ng Pilipinas, the countryโ€™s governing body for the sport tasked with sending and developing national MMA representatives for international competitions.

Baguio City โ€” Residents and athletes in Baguio City can now enjoy free access to the newly renovated and modernized track oval at Teachers Camp.

Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio formally announced the opening of the facility following the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the refurbished track oval at the government-owned PSC National Training Facility.

โ€œI am very happy, lalo na yung mga atletang makakatakbo na ulit ditoโ€ said Gregorio

Gregorio expressed delight that the upgraded sports facility will not only serve athletes but also the general public. He recalled that when Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered government-owned sports facilities to be opened for public use, thousands immediately took advantage of the opportunity.

โ€œWhen Pres Marcos opened up Rizal Stadium and Phil Sports Arena, beleived it or not mga 2,000 to 3,000 people yan every night from 3pm-10pm.โ€

The same setup will now be implemented at Teachers Camp. Additional lighting has also been installed to allow runners and fitness enthusiasts to use the oval even during night time hours.

Before its renovation, the rubberized track oval at Teachers Camp had already deteriorated due to years of wear and lack of upgrades. Gregorio said improving sports facilities has long been among his priorities since assuming leadership of the PSC.

โ€œ20 years ko na alam yung hinaing at 20 years ko na din alam yung pangangailangan, sayang naman yung pagkakataon at may pundo naman inilaan ang gobierno bakit di natin paspasanโ€

He further emphasized that delays in government infrastructure projects could negatively affect athletes, especially in terms of their confidence, preparation, and overall performance.

BAGUIO CITY โ€” Russian cyclist Nikita Shulchenko emerged as the overall champion of the 2026 MPTC Tour of Luzon after successfully defending the yellow jersey throughout the grueling 14-stage race that covered a total of 1,709.3 kilometers.

Riding for the Filipino-owned, Dubai-based LCW UAE Cycling Team, the 26-year-old rider showcased endurance to secure the individual general classification title and the โ‚ฑ1 million grand prize during the final mountain stage in Baguio City.

Shulchenko first claimed the yellow jersey during Stage 3 and never relinquished the lead to local and international riders.

He won the Stage 7 Individual Time Trial in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte and finished second in the Stage 13 ITT in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Prior to his breakthrough victory in the Philippines, Shulchenko had already established himself on the international cycling scene with an 11th-place overall finish at the prestigious Tour of Sharjah and several top-15 finishes in the Russian National Under-23 Championships.
