CALVIN “CAPTAIN” SANTOS — A LEADER BEHIND PHILIPPINE ARMWRESTLING

Behind every growing sport are people who don’t just compete—they build.

Calvin Santos, better known in the armwrestling community as “Captain,” is one of the individuals who has dedicated himself to helping develop and organize armwrestling in the Philippines.

What makes Captain stand out is his leadership, passion, competitiveness, and willingness to build opportunities for others. Rather than focusing solely on his own performance, he has invested time and effort into organizing competitions, bringing athletes together, and helping newcomers understand the fundamentals of the sport.

His mindset is simple: armwrestling needs athletes, but it also needs people willing to do the work behind the scenes.

He has also emphasized the importance of proper technique, mental preparation, discipline, and setting goals. For him, armwrestling is more than simply being strong—it is about strategy, positioning, determination, and the hunger to improve.

Most importantly, his story shows that a leader doesn’t always have to stand at the center of the table. Sometimes, a leader is the person building the table, creating the competition, bringing people together, and opening the door for the next generation.
