NCDSRL is the biggest schools rugby league competition in the National Capital District and has been a proven pathway for many of our PNG Kumuls and Orchids representatives. Today, rugby league franchises are also showing strong interest in recruiting players emerging from our program.
Our Girls Competition has been running successfully since 2018, creating greater opportunities and pathways for female athletes to progress in the sport.
Introducing curtain raisers for schools is also an effective marketing and development strategy. It allows students to experience high-level match environments, promotes school participation, builds stronger connections with fans and communities, and inspires the next generation of players.
You only need to attend one of our games to witness the electrifying atmosphere, passion, and talent on display every weekend. The future of Papua New Guinea rugby league starts here.

NCDSRL PRESIDENT ARNOLD GENDE ON 2026 SEASON

National Capital District Schools Rugby League (NCDSRL) President Arnold Gende spoke to the EM TV Trukai Sports team on Sunday, 7 June 2026, outlining updates and expectations for the 2026 NCDSRL competition season.

Gende emphasized the continued growth of the schools rugby league program in Port Moresby, highlighting its role in developing discipline, education, and pathways for young athletes especially females while strengthening rugby league at the grassroots level.

He reaffirmed the league’s commitment to working with key stakeholders to ensure a structured and competitive 2026 season that supports both academic performance and sporting development

Recovery is just as important as training, and includes proper hydration, nutrition, stretching, active recovery, and adequate rest. Take the time to watch more of Coach Elliot Allen’s videos and continue learning about recovery techniques, as this is one area that can greatly improve your performance, wellbeing, and longevity in the game. There are also many other recovery methods and resources available online that you can explore to enhance your knowledge and development as student-athletes. Good afternoon Coaches, Referees, Team Officials and Participants,

With the current dry and dusty conditions around the city, please take care of yourselves by wearing a mask where necessary, staying hydrated, and taking precautions against the flu that is circulating in Port Moresby.

The NCDSRL Executive expresses its disappointment with the low attendance at today’s Referees and Coaching Course conducted in partnership with Community Rugby League. Unfortunately, approximately three-quarters of the registered participants did not attend.

These courses are important for the growth and development of our competition and provide valuable knowledge and accreditation opportunities for coaches, referees, teachers, and officials. They are designed to strengthen individual capacity and improve the overall standard of rugby league within our schools competition.

We encourage everyone to be mindful of the time and resources invested by our stakeholders, facilitators, and partners who work hard to provide these opportunities. Participation and commitment from all members are essential to the success of our programs.

The course will be rescheduled, and all participants will be advised of the new date and venue in due course.

In the meantime, enjoy the weekend rugby league, stay safe, look after one another, and represent your schools and communities with pride.

Students please take note:
The Department of ICT wishes to inform all students that it is considering new online safety measures under its forthcoming eSafety legislation, including possible age restrictions for selected social media platforms. These reforms are designed to protect children and young people from harmful and inappropriate online content while encouraging responsible digital citizenship. Students are urged to use social media responsibly, respect others online, and contribute positively to a safer digital environment as consultations continue with key stakeholders across the country.

SOCIAL MEDIA AGE RESTRICTIONS UNDER CONSIDERATION

Last year, the Ministry took the Social Media Policy to Cabinet, which was endorsed as part of the Government’s commitment to online safety. As part of implementing that policy, we are now considering the introduction of Social Media Age Restrictions through forthcoming eSafety legislation.

Key proposals under consideration include:

✅ Requirement for Social Media Platforms to be legally registered in Papua New Guinea.

✅ A Classification Framework for Social Media Platforms based on risk, content type and user demographics.

✅ Age Restrictions for selected social media platforms to better protect children and young people from harmful and inappropriate content.

✅ Powers to restrict or prohibit platforms that fail to comply with Papua New Guinea law.

Late last year, we commenced consultations with Meta.

The Ministry for ICT in partnership with the Ministry for Community Development and Religion will now progress broader consultation with industry, parents, educators, churches and other stakeholders on the best way to implement these reforms.
