All of our itineraries that start or end at Walindi Plantation Resort include diving in the beautiful Kimbe Bay. And Restorff Island is the perfect idyllic tropical island for some last day off-gassing.

Our deepest sympathy to Leonnie's family and friends. Her loss has been felt immensely by everyone who knew her. She was one amazing lady, and gone too soon.

It is with the deepest sadness that the crews of MV FeBrina and MV Oceania say farewell to our much-loved Leonnie Waira.

For more than 15 years, Leonnie was an integral part of our boat family and a formative member of the Oceania team. A gifted chef, tireless worker and quiet leader, she brought her gentle spirit, contagious smile and delicious food to countless guests and crew.

Leonnie will be deeply missed and remembered with great affection by all who had the privilege of knowing and travelling with her. Our hearts are with her family and friends.

🌊 Underwater Wednesday

Meet the Freckled Hawkfish!

Unlike most reef fish, Freckled Hawkfish don't have a swim bladder, so instead of hovering in the water they spend much of their time perched on coral heads, patiently watching the reef.

From their lookout, they dart out in a flash to sn**ch passing shrimp, crabs and small fish before returning to the same favourite perch. Their strong, thickened pectoral fins act like little arms, helping them grip the reef in surge and current, making them one of the easiest reef fish to observe and photograph.

Did you know that all Freckled Hawkfish begin adult life as females!!! If the dominant male disappears, the largest female naturally changes to become the new breeding male. What a remarkable adaptation that ensures the group can continue to reproduce.

🌊 Underwater Wednesday

Meet the Whitetip Reef Shark! 🦈

Recognisable by the white tips on its dorsal and tail fins, the Whitetip Reef Shark is one of PNG's most common reef sharks.

Unlike most sharks, it can rest motionless on the seabed or beneath coral ledges during the day, emerging at night to hunt reef fish, octopus and crustaceans. With their long slender bodies they feed on reef fish, octopus, squid and crustaceans, squeezing into narrow crevices that larger sharks can't reach.

Because they are less common due to local fishing pressures, seeing a whitetip cruising the reef is always a welcome sight! Shy and curious rather than aggressive, whitetip reef sharks are an important predator that helps keep coral reefs healthy and balanced.

The slow, swaying arms of this feather star have lifted its entire body off the reef, leaving its tiny grasping feet dangling in space, but still walking!!

Imagine walking on your arms! 🤯

It's mesmerising to watch these ancient animals move in slow motion. We love how the reef's quiet, normal moments are so magical.

DON'T MISS OUT!!!

MV FeBrina's new EXPLORATORY 10 day dive trip to the far west of New Britain is live.

The SIASSI ISLANDS Exploratory Itinerary will be visiting areas around Cape Gloucester, Ritter Island, Umboi Island the the Siassi Islands archipelago.

This exploratory itinerary will be operating for the first time in 2027, so much of what lies beneath the surface remains unknown. Based on the region’s geography, our research and limited previous diving, we are expecting healthy hard and soft coral gardens, dramatic walls and pinnacles, and drift dives rich with marine life. Likely encounters include reef sharks, turtles, schooling barracuda, and trevally, and excellent opportunities for underwater photography.

🌊 Underwater Wednesday

Sea anemones may look like colourful underwater flowers, but they're actually animals—wantoks of jellyfish and corals.

Their tentacles are covered in thousands of tiny sticky stinging cells that catch plankton and small fish for food. They also rely on microscopic algae inside their tentacles called zooxanthellae, which also provides food and their pretty colours.

The Sebae (Leathery) Sea Anemone is one of the reef's most welcoming hosts, sheltering up to 15 different species of anemonefish, along with porcelain crabs and cleaner shrimp.

If an anemone turns white, it's a sign of bleaching, usually caused by heat stress. Without its zooxanthellae it loses both its colour and a major food source, but it can recover if conditions improve.

Aren't they amazingly cooperative and complex creatures!!!
