The last two weeks of our trip go anything but according to plan. Barbara's stomach goes crazy and she can hardly eat for days. Sigi's finger needs surgery as soon as possible after all, but we cannot figure out a way to return earlier. And due to a national strike of the transport companies we almost miss our booked return flight.

Kim and Sigi set off for the Sphinx (La Esfinge) to climb the 750m high east face. It is supposed to be the last big rock climb on this trip.
Unfortunately, Sigi slips off with his foot and his ring finger gets stuck in a crack. After taping the cut he climbs through the crux pitch. However, due to the severe pain they have to retreat afterwards and return to Huaraz as quickly as possible.

Our arrival in Huaraz is a bit bumpy. A severe cold holds us back and the weather is not getting better. Nevertheless, we do a warmup climb on rock and ascent the 5460m high Yanapaccha with our friends in icy wind and almost no visibility. In return we treat ourselves to a lot of good food such as Cuy (guinea pig).

Cocor and Sigi try to ascend the 6384m high Ausangate in the Cordillera Vilcanota. Due to rising clouds they have to abort their first direct ascent over 1500m of elevation from the base camp to the summit early. The following night the sky is starry and the moon shines brightly. They make better progress, but despite all their efforts they have to turn around just below the summit because of deep snow and strong winds. Nevertheless, it is an unforgettable experience.
