ALLAN MCBRIDE TROPHY - SERVICE TO CRICKET - Catherine Checkley Hogg

Catherine was nominated for the Allan McBride Trophy in recognition of her outstanding service to junior cricket in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

As a foundation committee member of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Cricket Club, established in 2019, Catherine has played a pivotal role in building the club from the ground up. Her commitment, leadership, and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping the club’s direction and ensuring a strong and sustainable future for junior cricket in our region.

Beyond her work within the club, Catherine has also generously volunteered her time with Lakeland and Bay of Plenty cricket. Her passion for junior development has been particularly evident through her leadership and encouragement of cricket within Whakatāne High School. Through her efforts, the club has strengthened its engagement within the school and the broader community, creating meaningful pathways for young players to participate and thrive.

Her service embodies the very spirit of the Allan McBride Trophy — commitment to junior development, community engagement, and selfless contribution to the game.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY - Eastern Bay of Plenty Cricket Club.

As the only junior cricket club in the district, EBOPCC has carried the responsibility of growing, coordinating, and sustaining cricket participation across the wider community, this has required a proactive, grassroots-focused approach to community engagement, development, and pathway creation.

Their Strategic Objectives coming into this season were to grow junior participation rates (Years 3–8), establish accessible local cricket opportunities for primary school students to ensure children can play within their own community and strengthen Community Partnerships by building and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.

They Key Initiatives Have Been
1. Running a School Engagement Programme
2. Local Competition Development
3. To support sustainable growth and equitable access, the club secured a $15,000 funding grant dedicated to equipping each team — including school-based teams — with essential cricket equipment.

Through the additional responsibilities the EBOPCC committee has taken on they have seen some great outcomes for their community.
EBOPCC is not only growing the game but ensuring equitable and is sustainable for future generations.

Unfortunately we end the season with another cancellation
Thanks to everyone for making our second season a success.
We grew from 10 teams last season to 14 teams this season.
We couldn’t do it without out coaches nga mihi to them all.
And our groundsman Mike YOUNG for mowing our junior pitches - nga mihi.

Cricket returns to Rex Morpeth Park again this weekend for the first time in 2026.
Note Parking At Rex Morpeth will be tight with the Kapa Haka festival on so use Goulstone Rd and Commerce St.
