The Bealey Spur, Arthurs Pass. An awesome 6 km climb on a well trodden track to the Bealey hut then another half hour climb to the Spur. I sat at the top eating my lunch, enjoying the fabulous views. I carried on along the saddle to another peak before heading back down. The terrain is varied, beginning with the forest of Beech, opening up to tussock areas, a wetland which includes a tarn, and the top is a typically Alpine tussock and shingle. If you don't mind a bit of climbing in your walks then this is a goody.

Today I took a run along the Boulder Bay walk way up to Godley Head and back to Taylor's Mistake. The wide grit track is a far cry from the thin clay track I walked 15 years ago with my daughters. This one is hilly but easy and we'll worth the effort. Starting from Taylor's, it winds its way around to Boulder Bay then up to the Godley Head gun Turrets then along the Lyttelton Harbour to the Summit road. Then a thin track back down to Boulder Bay. Apart from an agressive sheep it was a great run. Allow 3 and half hours if you ealk it, to investigate the gun Turrets and enjoy the views. It's a great walk if you havnt done it lately.
