Some folks says ‘I’m not a fighting type’ and therefore shrink away from any combat-related training. However, we believe it is exactly the opposite. It is precisely because you are not a ‘fighting type’ that one ought to learn defence, because you are a lover of 1) yourself 2) loved ones 3) life 4) safety 5) peace. Peace does not exist in a vacuum, it has to be protected. Within each human being is a natural instinct for the preservation of life. That is exactly why we learn defence. As Imi Lichtenfeld famously says, “Krav Maga, so that one may walk in peace."
When it comes to practical defence, there is not much more practical than Krav. It is not a traditional martial art or a combat sport. It is an outcome-specific system, that for civilians, should enable a quick and clean escape (the primary legal self defence outcome). It’s not about winning a fight in a traditional sense, even if fighting ability is required. It’s about getting away.
Whether you are standing, seated, on the ground. Whether the threat is a striker, grappler, groper, robber, drugged or drunk, armed or unarmed, unruly behaviour comes in all types. A method needs to be simple enough to remember and execute under pressure, yet comprehensive and broad enough, that it can offer solutions to a myriad of variable scenarios and multiple real-life situations. It also needs to awaken the warrior within. That is the beauty of Krav.
