Transitioning from fully able bodied to disabled has been quite emotional and unpleasant at times, but I have no other choice than to keep going.

A quick update on my cerebellar ataxia including how it affects my eating and drinking. It's very challenging at times, especially when I'm having a bad tremor day. I'm under a lot of stress right now,so that is making the tremors worse.

I was asked if ataxia is a disability, and the answer is yes.
It affects my quality of life, activities of daily life and my ability to work more hours.
My central nervous system is working overtime to keep me upright, but eventually I may lose the ability to walk. this is very scary for someone who was once able bodied.

A follow up to my health video from 2 days ago. Alot of you have asked about the cerebellar ataxia and how it affects me, so this time I've gone a bit deeper on that. I'll be doing more videos on how it affects my job as a personal trainer and my social life.

Apologies for the lengthy post but I had a lot of questions from Wednesdays health update.
this clip talks about my ataxia symptoms and how they manifest. In future posts I'll discuss the effects it has on my work as a personal trainer.

Honesty time. I've been dealing with A LOT health wise over the last couple of years, and it's triggered a lot of grief and regrets.
But as an exercise professional and personal trainer, it isn't in me to give up. Apart from being incredibly stubborn, I'm using my experiences to keep going and keep my mobility for as long as I can.

Who else lives with these conditions?

To all my friends and followers,

I've lost access to my original IG account so I've had to start over and set up a new one.

So if you get a request or follow from thekindbodymethodnz, it is me.

I'm gutted to have lost access to over 10 years of content, I've sent the requested information to IG, but I'm not optimistic that I'll get the account back.

I can still see it and follow it, but I can't get access.

Thanks! 😊

I've gone through long phases of insomnia, which meant I couldn't get to sleep until 1-2am. I would lie awake tossing and turning, my brain unable to switch off. Add menopause to the picture, and sleep become more erratic and disturbed.

The biggest key for me was blue light, so I put blue light filters on my phone and laptop. It made a huge difference to my sleep and to my migraines, and I wish I'd known to tackle it sooner. If you're looking for more scientific information, look up Matthew Walker, he did a wonderful podcast series on sleep with Andrew Huberman. I learnt a lot.

Tell me about your sleep routine below, good or bad!

I'm in the mid-late stages of perimenopause and at moderate risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. My most recent bone scan showed a very slight decrease in bone mass so i need to keep on top of resistance training.

It is super important to maintain bone mass and connective tissue strength throughout this phase and beyond, so please don't stop lifting!

I'm currently dealing with some serious shoulder calcification, and that means I can't train upper body, so I've invested in a weighted vest meaning my cardio will include some resistance for my bones.

If you hate yourself, losing weight won't improve your self esteem. It may earn praise from people around you, but deep down, you won't believe it.

Self esteem comes from within, and for many people that takes a lot of work.

Dieting may give you a sense of control, but it won't take away your emotional pain or problems .

Take the big step of working on your issues, then see how you feel.
