Update - the amazing people at Franklin Pool and Leisure have been in touch and we are working on a plan to try and remain there post floor upgrade βΊοΈππ«Ά
πΌ FRANKLIN ROLLERSPORTS IS LOOKING FOR A SECOND HOME β CAN YOU HELP US?
We are a small but rapidly growing artistic roller skating club based at Pukeoware Hall, and weβre looking for somewhere in the Franklin area where our members can train and continue to grow.
Earlier this year, we were beyond grateful and excited to be welcomed into Franklin Pool & Leisure, and this amazing opportunity gave two of our most competitive skaters much needed access to a larger training floor for the first time. The difference this made in their skating was incredible with both skaters qualifying for the NZ Artistic Rollerskating National Championships in July β one skater won her grade, becoming a National Champion π
We have also run several pop-up rollerskating sessions which are open to all Franklin locals, the last of which is happening this Sunday. These sessions have been well attended and enjoyed by all who came along, with the clubs membership growing exponentially as a result.
Unfortunately, following the planned resurfacing of the main courts at Franklin Pool & Leisure in October, we have been told roller skating will no longer be permitted, a decision made by CLM managers as we understand. We have written to the centre asking for clarification and respectfully requesting that the decision be reconsidered, particularly as we are artistic skaters and have not damaged the existing flooring. We also pay regular court hire fees, and all our members are Franklin locals. Unfortunately, we haven't received a response as yet, so we're turning to our community in hopes we can find a suitable back up home.
Does anyone know of a large school hall, sports centre, warehouse, community facility or business with a large, smooth indoor space that could become a home for Franklin Rollersports?
We aren't asking for something for nothing. We're happy to discuss regular hire, work around existing bookings and we are caring responsible users of any facility we are given access to.
Across Auckland, other roller skating communities have established facilities including ActiveZone, Trust Arena, Skateland, and Barfoot & Thompson Arena. Franklin has the skaters β we now just need the space to allow our own growing group of locals to thrive and we really need help to make this happen.
Therefore, if you know someone who might be able to help, please tag them or share this post.
Our club isn't just about roller skating.
It's about our young people discovering confidence, balance, fitness, self expression, and belonging, its about adults challenging themselves to do things outside their comfort zones, and families connecting. It is also about our talented local athletes being given the opportunity to discover just how far they can go.
Franklin's skaters are ready to roll. We just need somewhere that enables them to keep doing it ππΌ
