Another epic session down at Waihau Bay! π€
This time Joel and Kaz were the crew. The plan was to target Southern Bluefin on jigs. We were originally going to head down to Lottin Point, but the intel had been a bit slow this week. After checking the latest marine reports, the back of White Island looked promising, and we'd also heard it had been fishing well, so that's where we headed.
The trusty Yamaha on the Offshore Boats punched us out there, and it wasn't long before we were marking heaps of bait and seeing plenty of tuna sign. I dropped down with my Daiwa LD55 and, within a 7-minute fight, had a solid Bluefin on the deck! π₯
Next up, Joel hooked a beauty on the jig too. Then Kaz hooked up, but the fish came to the surface too quickly and threw the hook. Unlucky mateβthat one got away!
After a few hours the jig bite slowed right down, so we headed back in, grabbed a couple of hours' sleep, and hit the road home.
It's crazy how many people are into night-time jigging now. I honestly think more fish are being caught on jigs than lures at the moment. It blows my mind considering everyone used to troll lures. Now it's all about both techniques.

To top it all off, we ate like kings at Nat and Joel's place today. Huge thanks to Chef Kaz, Mike, and Moe for an unreal feed. Bass hot pot followed by Japanese sushi... what's on the menu next week? π
