Te Puke Tennis Club - Mens Doubles Championship.

To finish the quest for club honours, the Mens Doubles title was held this morning at the club.

Lining up in the final was Dan Schluter and Dennis Powell - already multiple winners of this title - versus Michael McClutchie and Bruce Wilkins.

Bruce had won the doubles before with club coach Grant Rau but he and Mike have not played too many competitive matches together. This maybe showed in the first set which Dan and Dennis took comfortably 6-1.

The second set saw Mike and Bruce's match fitness come through whilst some of Dan and Dennis's touches around net weren't quite coming off as well as in the first set. 6-3 Mike &Bruce.

In the final set 10 point breaker, Mike & Bruce kept up the momentum from the previous set and went into a 4-0 lead. Dan and Dennis went some way to pe***ng them back but on match point big Mike M came up with an unanswerable serve - aced out the match!

Final score: 1-6, 6-3, 10-5

By all accounts it was match played in good spirits with some hard rallies from the back and front of the court.

Well played guys and congrats Mike and Bruce - 1st time winning pair.

Te Puke Tennis Club singles Championships 2026.

Great day at Te Puke which saw Grant Rau claim his 4th Mens singles title at the club.

Play started early for a Sunday, but the weather was perfect.

Skylar Petri played in the mens draw to give her match practice and finished off with her best match of the day vs her coach Grant - who she had led 4-3 at one stage.

Andre Van Der Merwe - a new member at Te Puke finished second and ran Grant the closest on the day 9-6 with a magic mixture of topspin, drop shots and a demon serve (which he must have copied off Krygios on Youtube) and he finished 2nd - well done Andre!

Grant Ngatai - keen as mustard came away with a win too. His lefty craft and deft use of his lob and dropshot makes him a danger.

Many thanks for the support from the sidelines, keen grandparents Dennis and Mum Kimberley Jayne - who will see Skylar win many more things in the future.

And all the participants - make sure we are all set for Mens Doubs next weekend!

Some pics from the day.

Craig Harris Memorial 2026

Mixed Doubles Tournament - Sunday 24th March.

A MUCH better weather outlook in terms of Sun versus rain only marred by some gusty wind playing around with peoples otherwise good serving actions!!

The Division 1 final was touch and go between local favourite Lindy and scratch partner Marcus Philpott. Glenn and Janine led for good portions of the match and produced some of the best tennis I have seen from them but at the end they were pipped by years of match craft from Lindy and just wide eyed- cant believe im here - magic from Marcus. No-one deserved to lose in the 11-9 classic

Division 2. JAN skrip and Anna Green were in a class of their own taking out their Division convincingly. MARILYN AND Richard defied the seedings taking some good scalps on the way to get to the final.

Te Puke Business House 2026.

What started on 5th February and culminated in a thrilling finale almost 3 months later, TP Business House is finally over.

Kapow - last terms winner - regained the title beating a resurgent Taylor Bros team on the last night, who finished second.

Bad weather - and the expectance of bad weather which never materialised - stopped quite a few weeks play, but last few weeks were glorious thankfully.

Well done David Page for persevering with weather challenges and Team Captains, Lloyd for sourcing the prizes and master of Ceremonies and Vianne bossing the kitchen whilst captaining her own team.

Results:

1st KAPOW - 238pts - mostly our Powell family and friends - well done Skylar, Kimberley Jayne, Stacey Powell, Dennis Powell (pop) and Marieke Smal.

2nd Taylor Bros - 234 pts - always there or therabouts, also have strong reserves to call on from Papamoa TC well done Andrew Wills, Michelle Wood Matt Wells and David Taylor

3rd Hit For Brains - 232 points - took some notable scalps but didnt quite do it every week. Well done Mike McClutchie, Grabt Grant Ngatai, Jenni Hampshire, Sean P and Mark.

H20 Orchards - spot prize Well done Jeremy Boyles, David Kidd, Tracey Reid Cameron and others, great sports wonderful fun always.

Thanks to all the other teams for playing, sorry to many to mention
