Last week our subscribers got to learn a little of what's in store for the Coromandel region AND, what dates to lock in!

Here's an overview of what we're rolling out:

SAVE THE DATES: Sat 25 March & Sat 6 May 2023

These are two jam-packed workshop days in Whangamatฤ where you'll get to participate in, and learn surf-specific fitness training methods. Between the pool, field, beach, and classroom, we'll deliver an interactive experience with loads of take-home skills and resources.

Notice that they're 6 weeks apart?

In between these dates you'll have a fully accessible online programme with instructional videos and classes via our app and website so that you can train from literally anywhere.

PLUS! There will be weekly pop-up classes for those that are in the vicinity (Whangamatฤ, Tairua, Sailors Grave, and possibly Whitianga). We know some of you like that social / accountability aspect, and frankly - we do too ;)

We can't wait to bring this to you, but spaces will be very limited! Make sure you've registered your interest with the link below because this will be where we announce that spaces are available to book in a couple of weeks.

Don't let space and money get in the way of a killer workout ๐Ÿซฃ Aim to get these 5 items sorted first as a great base for all the workouts you really need to get surf-fit.

Many people over-complicate it, overspend, and then get lost on what to do with it all before quitting and listing to re-sell on TradeMe. Just get the basics sorted first, and you can build from there.

Shout out to the birds that swim better than they fly, sharing the salty substrate with us that is - our ocean.

It's their day today, so take 10 mins to research a penguin of interest and - if possible, take some kind of action to ensure it has a promising future.

This featured penguin is the chinstrap penguin, distributed mainly to the east of the Antarctic Peninsula in the Scotia Sea. There have also been sightings on southern NZs mainland and the sub-antarctic island.

Two of the major threats for these penguins include climate change and overfishing of krill (their major food source) in the unprotected waters of Antarctica. Stay informed and take action - big or small, at https://www.asoc.org/take-action/

Want to line yourself up for a tomorrow? Bonus: It's benefits are transferable to your surf fitness ๐Ÿ‘

Here's a straight forward cardio workout that you can do in your backyard. All you need is a watch or a cellphone timer to keep track.

The main drill is a form of high intensity interval training (HIIT) which is going to work both your aerobic and anaerobic energy system. It also covers components of stability, muscular endurance, power, and agility, which transfers to components used in surfing ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Tomorrow at 8a.m I'll go Live in there and cover all the exercises and proper technique if you're unfamiliar with them. It'll only take 10minutes to run through and you'll be set to go!

If you're ready to go now... here's some extra detail:

โญ Grab a water bottle, and a mat or towel if you dont have a soft surface

โญ Extra Notes re Main Drill:

1. Everyone does 4x lengths of 8m sprints and there-and-back = 1 (touch the ground at each end).

2. For all other exercises choose your rep' range: Beginner = 6-8reps / Intermediate 10reps / Advanced = 12reps.

3. Mountain climbers: Left + Right = 1rep

4. Shoulder taps: Left + Right = 1rep.

Good luck team! It's a bit decieving... going up the pyramid is much easier than coming back down. Make good use of that midway break!

Well, here I am doing what I said I was going to do for well over a year now - create a cross-training platform for recreational surfers. I've got a wee challenge to get us started, but first an intro huh!

My name is Nicki and I live on the East coast of the Coromandel Peninsula in our beautiful country that is Aotearoa, New Zealand.

I'm an ocean-obsessed, qualified PT, with a marine and coastal science degree. One who never stops learning for long - I'm also currently studying to become a surf foundation specialist coach too.

My love of surfing started 10 years ago when I met my now husband, Jay, and it didn't take long to realise that the fitness components of surfing are really like no other. Over the years I've gone through periods of feeling like a drowning whale, and times where I've progressed quickly and felt on top of my game. I know what version makes surfing more fun (and it's not the slow moving marine mammal). But man... how quickly can you go backwards?!

When I started applying my knowledge as a personal trainer, to training surfers... there was no doubt that training the specifics pays off. This is just an intro' so I won't get into the science stuff yet...

But I know what surfing means to fellow frothers;

It's not just a sport, but a lifestyle. A joy. A reconnection. It's an escape, AND a coming home. It's time to yourself, and time with your mates.

When time is precious in our modern-day lives, every session is sacred.

And from my own experience and the feedback I hear from others, is that what you do in that time comes mostly, down to your fitness. Sessions are just better when you're fitter (and not fighting)!

So I'm going to use this platform to help with the non-wave-riding principals that will help improve (and at the very least maintain) your surf fitness when you're out of the water.

One more thing... I'm a relentless believer that the opportunities to be your healthiest, fittest, and happiest state were NOT left behind in a younger version of you. That is some preconditioned idea we get from marketing, and tales from people who got stuck adulting too seriously and put everything else before themselves.

So, I want to leave you with this easy but epic task to do right NOW...

Think back to a time when your were surfing your absolute best (if you've just started, think of a time when you felt like you had all the energy in the world and you were charging with whatever it was you were doing).
Put yourself there. What were you doing, who were you with, and how did that FEEL??

Now, imagine you've just taken the first step to becoming that person again, but you're going to be 10%, 20%, 50% or even 100% better than that again. What would you be doing, and how would THAT feel. Seriously - that's a reality.

I'm going to give you the tools to implement those first steps. But for now I just want you to embrace the vision of what is possible and the actions your best inner surfer would take.
