Wellington Orcas Under 18 Boys Muster

Open to all boys born in 2008 or 2009 who are interested in representing the Wellington Orcas at the National Youth Tournament, being held 27–29 September in Auckland.

As part of preparations for the tournament, the team will play a game against touring Australian school Kirwan State High School on Thursday 25 June.

When you’re in season, don’t stop lifting and don’t stop sprinting. Maintain both year-round.

Athletes who keep strength training 2–3 times per week during the season are more likely to maintain force production, power, speed, and resilience instead of gradually losing them as the season progresses. Strength training also helps reduce injury risk by maintaining muscle, tendon, and joint capacity under repeated game stress.

The same applies to sprinting. If you stop exposing the body to maximal-speed running, sprint mechanics and top-end speed decline quickly. Sprinting 1–2 times per week helps preserve neuromuscular efficiency, hamstring robustness, acceleration qualities, and overall game speed.

You don’t need huge volumes in season — you need consistency and intensity.

Lift heavy 2–3x per week

Sprint fast 1–2x per week

Reduce volume when fatigued, but keep quality high

The biggest mistake athletes make in season is replacing strength and speed work with only conditioning and practice. Conditioning maintains fitness. Heavy lifting and fast sprinting maintain performance.

Due to spots still being available, our upcoming AT Academy 8-week foundation program is now officially open to both U14s girls and boys ready to level up their performance.

This program is built to teach the fundamentals of strength training and movement, helping young athletes develop confidence, discipline, and performance in a safe, standards-driven, and values-based environment.

💪 What athletes will learn: • Proper strength and movement foundations
• Pre-training and game preparation essentials
• Mental skills for performance
• Load management and recovery
• Daily planning and athlete habits

This is more than training — it’s about building confident, capable, and resilient young athletes.

📅 Dates: 11th May – 1st July
🕠 Days: Monday & Wednesday
⏰ Time: 5:30pm – 6:45pm
💲 Cost: $299
👕 Optional uniform: $100 (tee shirt, shorts, hat — arrives in Week 2)
