Results from Saturday 1st Aug

As is often the case the weather was "average" at Western Lake on Saturday. Brief glimpses of the sun, COLD southerly and even a short stint of hail. To be fair the scores were pretty "nothing to write home about" but a good time was had by the small number that turned up. Good food (and plenty of it) and more than usual banter and bu****it thank mostly to the south island visitors. Big thank you to Brendon, Mark and Manu for making the trek to the winterless (LOL) north.

Last year WLGC members had a bit of a trial run on the night shoot and considered it successful enough to give it a go throwing a few targets for like-minded individuals. The fire will be going, the rugby will be on, there will be food, there will be spot prize draws and pretty much if there's a bunch of rowdy shooters it will be a good night out. Everyone welcome including spectators - you don't have to enter to come along, hang out and join in the indoor activities.

The club will have people on hand to lend a hand to anyone who wants or needs it. There will be equipment to use if you don't have your own.

If you're planning on heading down (and why wouldn't you?) it would be a helpful heads-up to let us know some numbers so we can do our best to cater for everyone. See poster below for contact phone (Dan) or club email.

Location: In the past we've had a few participants unfamiliar with the club entrance head into Manganui Farm which is about 1km before our actual gate. If you get to Manganui keep heading south until you come across our sign on the right hand side. You'll see the club from the road - shouldn't be too hard.

At this stage the long range weather forecast is not long enough but it is winter so bring something warm and probably something to keep you dry.

Have you read and made a submission on the proposed changes to the Fi****ms Act?

Submissions close on 16 February 2026.

Reading the amended act can be quite challenging so below is a link to an explanation document taken from a post by Nicole McKee. It is important that all holders of licences to get involved and have their say regarding proposed changes. It is important that submissions are made by individuals. Clubs can make submissions however they will be counted as ONE submission rather than representative of individual club members.

Licence holders are already highly (some so over) regulated but there is now the opportunity to simplify and remove some of the repetitive and onerous obiligations on law abiding citizens.

There are countless conversations/discussions around what the law is, where it is going, and where it will end. What will it mean for our sport? Will we be able to continue to hold licences? Will it be affordable? Will it be too hard? Will we get to the point of "OMG, this is too much! I give up!".

Talking and debating should always be on the table but NOW is the time to make your voice heard in a place where it can make a difference!
