We'll only have the world's best fi****ms laws that respect licenced firearm owners if the people affected by them have their say.

So if you're a farmer, hunter, sport shooter, pest controller, dealer, museum, collector, gunsmith, or anyone else who interacts with fi****ms, make your voice heard by supporting the bill and suggesting improvements.

Unlike the previous Government, we're listening. Link to submit in the comments.

Have you read and made a submission on the proposed changes to the Fi****ms Act?

Submissions close on 16 February 2026.

Reading the amended act can be quite challenging so below is a link to an explanation document taken from a post by Nicole McKee. It is a very good document in plain language outlining proposed changes to the act and can be found here https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/arms-bill-introduced-deliver-better-fi****ms-law

It is important that all holders of licences to get involved and have their say regarding proposed changes. It is important that submissions are made by individuals. Clubs can make submissions however they will be counted as ONE submission rather than representative of individual club members.

Licence holders are already highly (some so over) regulated but there is now the opportunity to simplify and remove some of the repetitive and onerous obiligations on law abiding citizens.

There are countless conversations/discussions around what the law is, where it is going, and where it will end. What will it mean for our sport? Will we be able to continue to hold licences? Will it be affordable? Will it be too hard? Will we get to the point of "OMG, this is too much! I give up!".

Talking and debating should always be on the table but NOW is the time to make your voice heard in a place where it can make a difference!

Public submissions are now being invited on this Bill

If you’re flying with a firearm or ammunition within New Zealand on a major commercial airline, check the rules with your airline before you fly.

Fi****ms can only be transported in your checked baggage, and they must be unloaded, secured in a locked case, and declared at check in.

Before you fly, make sure your fi****ms licence is current by using the Licence Checker on our website. It’s a quick way to confirm your details are up to date (even during renewal).

Download the A4 fact sheet from our website for guidance: fi****msafetyauthority.govt.nz

Save the date...............
Saturday 6th December

mark it in your diary, clear your calendar, cancel your cousin’s wedding if you have to.

While some clubs argue about who’s bringing the sausages, at Western Lake we’ve got lads diving for crayfish! Our members will go to extreme lengths to ensure nobody leaves hungry – and yes, the pre-shoot prep does involve more wetsuits than gun cases.

We’re proudly known as one of the most hospitable clubs in the country – not because we say so, but because somehow everyone ends up back for seconds, thirds, and dessert. Good people, great shooting, and better food than most weddings… that’s just how we do it.

A massive thank you to Ngāti Hinewaka for supporting us every year and issuing a special permit so we can gather enough kaimoana to feed the army of friends, family, shooters and professional plate-stackers who descend on us from all over NZ.

If you’ve been before, you already know.
If you haven’t… well, you might want to bring stretchy pants.
