Current Holders of the Chairmans Trophy for the 2009/10 season

Semi-final action in the Chairman’s Trophy today, after a disruptive season with defaults and weather interruption the Cougars came to Ngatea Domain to yet another excellent playing surface prepared by grounds team of Graham Beagley, Jake Harris and Robin Kent. After winning the toss and quickly choosing to bat, Kaiheres version of the bash brothers took the attack to Waikere, and had advanced the game significantly when Michell Harris was dismissed for 42 and the score at 94 off 9 overs. Keegan Walsh at the other end carried on but was starved of the strike and was dismissed for a well made 45. After a bit of fightback from Waikere the Cougars were 4 down, which brought the match winning partnership together, Cohen Andrews (98) and Cullen Aislabie (92) combining for a 176 run stand. Some late hitting moved the score up to a mammoth 358/7 off the allotted 40 overs. To give the opposition credit, the fought hard and attacked from ball 1 to try to chase the total down, unfortunately the pressure was too great with Sam Aislabie and Oscar Joynes picking up 3 wickets etc and strangling the batting side for 92 runs to book a ticket in next weeks finale. In some sad cricketing news, the KCC would like to acknowledge the passing of Mike Cotter, a great cricket man who contributed huge amounts of time and energy to many former and current Kaihere cricket players via his time working with Hauraki Plains College teams.

Man of the match performance from Jake Harris, smashing 101 not out off only 68 balls after joining Cullen Aislabie (45) at the crease at 6-79 the Cougars were reeling after a strong start with with ball from TA Marist. From the start Jake took the game to the opposition with power and aggression. A good batting performance was backed with a tidy bowling effort with Lewis Horder picking up 3-23 and Maddy Aislabie, Matty Davis and Oscar Joynes picking up 2 wickets each to bundle Marist out for 160 and take the victory home.

Peter Bennett Cup Champions 2025

In totally dominant fashion the KCC have taken out the Peter Bennett Cup for 2025. After losing the toss and being asked to bat on a pristine batting surface and fast outfield (despite overnight showers). The game was evenly poised at 65-4 after early wickets and boundaries kept the strong crowd entertained early doors. The partnership of 184 runs that followed between Oscar Joynes (78 not out) and Cullen Aislabie (99) proved to be too much as once again Cullen got the Cougars out of a tight spot, proving his class as Kaiheres Mr Fixit, the man we always turn to when the going gets tough was well supported by Oscar in his breakthrough innings with shots all round the ground. A Cohen Andrews cameo of 28 from 15 rubbed salt into the wound to post 288/6 off the 40 overs. Pirongias second innings belonged to two men, Jake Harris who broke the back of the top order after he sent the off stump of the opposing captain flying and Lewis Horder who returned match winning figures of 5/9 with some classic line and length, attacking the stumps all day, denied more wickets only by a Keegan Aislabie direct hit from deep in the infield to add insult to injury and wrap the game up early. Huge thanks to all sponsors, supporters and ground staff for an excellent end to 2025. 🐈 🆙

After a week off due to defult, the cougars were back in action vs Te Awamutu Sports at another fantastic Ngatea Domain pitch and outfield. After losing the toss the opposition recognised the chance to make a big score being well poised with 50 runs on the board early after a terrible start with Jake Harris hitting the stumps first ball of the match. Some tidy middle order bowling chipped through the batting order with Lewis Horder, Keegan Walsh and Oscar Joynes picking up two wickets each to bundle TA out for an under par 119. There were two men that stood out above the rest in the Kaihere batting innings, the first was Keegan Walsh who opened the batting and took the game by the scruff of the neck with a mix of flowing drives and aggressive onside play for a well made 41. Easing the Cougars in for the win was Oscar Joynes who made an exquisite 30 not out, hitting some beautiful shots to the cover boundary. The Cougars have made the final which will be played at home next week, so far opponent is TBC. 🐈 🆙

Captains knock gets set up KCC win

After a false start on the first home game of the season the boys gathered at Ngatea today, won the toss and elected to bat. A rapid fire start from Mitch Harris, fresh from European sabbatical came flying out of the blocks with 33 from 18, and Keegan Aislabie with another swashbuckling 44 of 20 balls. However as fast as the runs came, so did the wiickets to leave the Cougars reeling at 120/6. Captain Sam Aislabie, (channeling his doppelgänger and idol Daren Lehmann) donned the white wide brim hat and dug in for a patient 60 not out from 70 balls faced, with gritty support from Patrick Beagley and some late order power hittting from Jamie Kennedy put the icing on the cake for a well make 232/9 off the allotted overs. Another exceptional start from new ball bowlers Jake Harris and Patrick Beagley who rocked the top order with wickets falling at both ends. Oscar Joynes took the game by the scruff of the neck and picked up 3 late order wickets with some excellent late innings bowling and effected a run out in another strong display to roll TA Marist for 84, a pleasing victory as they have had the upper hand on the Cougars in recent times. On to next week for one of the biggest rivalry’s in Waikato Valley B grade cricket as the KCC take on an always difficult Pirongia team at home again. 🐈 ⬆️

Better late than comes the wrap up from the KCC’s latest match, trekking down into Colin Meads country the boys were to take on a Waitete side that is always threatening on their home turf. After winning the toss and batting the Cougars were reeling at 60/6. Aislabie brothers Keegan (52) and Cullen (62) set about rebuilding the innings both bringing up run a ball half centuries to pull the total through to 161 all out in 27 overs. With a modest total to defend the Cougars started with a hiss and a roar with Jake Harris knocking the top off the batting order, to return match winning figures of 4/19, well supported with two wickets a piece from Patrick Beagley and Matthew Davis to roll Waitete for 69. Huge thanks to Jonno Taaffe at Piako Mitsubishi for sponsoring the trip down, a massive contribution that is much appreciated. The boys enjoy a run of home games leading up to Christmas, looking forward to utilising the excellent playing surface prepared by the grounds team of Graeme Beagley, Jake Harris and also Robin Kent who spends countless hours keeping the pristine outfield mown to a perfect length. 🐈 🆙

“Beagley Heroics get the Cougars home”

The KCC travelled away to Waikere CC for the first round of the Peter Bennet Cup Waikato Valley B-Grade. After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, the cougars toiled hard without much luck, some off season rust was present as many catching chances were created, however few were converted. Oscar Joynes taking the best catch that never was, one handed at full stretch, running full tilt but unfortunately crossing the boundary line. Debutant Patrick Beagley and seasoned veteran Jake Harris each picking up two wickets a piece to have have Waikere all out for 191 runs in what was to set up an exciting chase. After an exciting start from openers Lewis Horder and Liam Gordon, a few quick wickets fell. Enter Cullen Aislabie (51), fresh from Canadian sabbatical, pairing with young up and comer Cohen Andrews (31) the pair set about rebuilding the chase. Both fell in quick succession and with tensions high the equation was simple. 5 runs to win, no wickets in hand. 2 x Beagleys at the crease. Established batsmen Patrick Beagley took the game by the scruff of the neck and advanced down the track, despatched the Waikere medium pacer over his head for a 1 bounce 4 leading to the scores to be tied. Start of the next over and Graeme Beagley was facing up, mustering all his years of experience he left a ball wide of the stumps and the match was won and the crowd went wild. Nail biting stuff to see the boys drinking the winners stuff post game. 🐈 🆙

The Kaihere Cougars complete a demolition job of Waikare today. After batting first, opening pair Mitch Harris (46) and Cullen Aislabie (40) added a quick fire opening stand of 100. After a bit of a comeback from the home side, Keegan Aislabie came to the crease and kept the tempo moving along with some big shots into the leg side finishing with an aggressive 56. The next partnership was record breaking and match defining. Shea O’Hallahan came to the crease fresh off a Canadian sabbatical and swapped icicles for one big Grey Nicolls and savaged the Waikare bowlers. Bringing up 100 off 50 balls, then completing a rare made feat of brutalising 6 sixes in one over, to finally be dismissed for 149. Graeme Beagley continued to wind back the clock with a classy 68 late in the innings to wrap in up at 447/9 off 40 overs. After a sharp start with the ball, chief destroyer Maddy Aislabie spun a web of confusion and broke the back of the middle order picking up 4 wickets, with recently recalled Matthew MacInnes chipping in with 3 wickets in his return to the bowling crease. A huge win by over 200 runs and off to Te Awamutu Marist for a top of the table clash, crucial to deciding semi final spots. 🐈 🆙

The Kaihere Cricket Club sends its condolences to the Walsh family at this sad time. Nick had a long association with the KCC first as a player, then as a supporter with his son Keegan carrying on the legacy. A great man on and off the field who will be missed by many. The team will wear black arm bands this Saturday in the home game vs Te Awamutu Sports.
