Hi All
Well what a fantastic tournament the Women's World Cup was.
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Spain were worthy Winners.
If you watched most of the games, to me 2 teams stood out Spain and Japan

My Footballing Philosophy
When it comes to Children between 7 and 12, I have a simple philosophy, enjoyment, if your child does not enjoy playing football, ask the question why? Especially if he is a sports orientated child.
Often this comes down to ability, they are not achieving what they want to achieve on the pitch. If they are an athletic child, they already have a major positive, of what is needed to become a good player.
This is where a good coach comes in, they will identify the weaknesses and the strengths, and encourage them to explore those weaknesses, and improve them. with customised drills, Ball manipulation is the key, ball Mastery. If a player believes thy can do anything with the ball, the part of his game that really improves is their confidence.
When a player plays with confidence, they enjoy the game more, usually make the correct decisions on the pitch, and become a great team player. Most players will improve their skills as they grow older, but they also pick up bad habits, which become harder to rectify as they get older. Good Coaching is the key, natural talent will get you so far, a good coach will make you a good player into a great player. The better a player becomes, the more he enjoys this amazing game.

Hi All, the Official NZ football season is coming to an end in NZ, but if you have kids with talent, or passion for the game, that want to continue to progress, and improve their game, PM me, for 1 on 1 or small group sessions at reasonable rates, I have been coaching football for over 30 years, Play still myself, and have played at a decent level, so I know what it takes to become a good player. The girls team I coach at Ellerslie Football Club, won their Division. I am also a Coerver Football coach, look up their website, they have holiday programs running, these are aimed at improving your Son or Daughters Skill and Technique through ball manipulation.
Which is also part of my footballing philosophy.

Football season Is 1/2 way through in NZ
Still not too late to set your self ago
For all you parents out there, yes it is great seeing your child score a goal.
Would it be even better if they controlled, passed and scored with both feet.
Your child would also be a better all round player if he could do everything with 2 feet
As a parent how easier is it to catch a ball with 2 hands, ride a bike with 2 hands, to drive a car with 2 hands, to hold a cricket bat with 2 hands swing a golf club with 2 hands, than just 1
Most footballers only use 1 foot to control pass dribble and shoot
How good would they be if they had 2 feet that could do all that.

Pre-season has started, and another tip from the Skills coach.
Pointless learning new tricks until you have mastered the basics of the game control pass and move.
I see so many kids practicing the Maradona, or the Ronaldo scissors or the cruyff turn. yet they have not mastered first touch control, passing and moving into space.
Pointless being able to do these tricks, if your first touch goes to the other team, you do a trick and then your pass goes astray.
Spend more time practicing control pass ( with both feet ) this will make you a better player. Tricks can come later.
Also Kids use to naturally fit, this is in decline due to technology.
working on fitness, and stamina is imperative, you can not control, pass, or move if you out of breath.

The football season might have ended, and other sports take priority.
If you want to improve your skills, and your overall game, still practice at least 2 hrs a week.
The good players train all year round.
Fitness is the key, how ever skillful you are, if you are not fit, you can not perform to the best of your ability.
A great drill is to juggle a ball. See how many you can do, then do some aerobic exercise and then try juggling again.
You will find that you can not do as many when out of breath.
That is why when playing in a game players make mistakes. Fitness means you are not out of breath, therefore have better control, when receiving or passing or running with the ball, less mistakes.
