This game quite literally could’ve gone either way…

Those little birdies had us flying ALL over the turf, and if it wasn’t for one very unfortunate (for them) misplaced ball squat and the fact we casually have the Div 3 Women’s Player of the Year in our cavalry… we could’ve been heading to a shootout. And honestly, who knows how that circus would’ve ended.

But enough being coy…

WE WON!!!

🥉 THIRD PLACE LEGENDS!! A PODIUM FINISH!!
And if they were handing out medals, we’d all be looking a little bronzed today.

The final game certainly didn’t escape the usual Breakers chaos. Forgotten mouthguards… again. Sheer panic when the ball stopped ON the goal line and everyone screamed “KICK IT!” at the goalie. Balls hit and going completely rogue. Players subbing themselves off with absolutely nobody subbing on. And laughs. So many laughs.

Then the final whistle went and the celebratory dance moves were so questionable we’ve been asked to stay at least 50 metres from any dance floor for the next two years.

The Year of the Underdogs.

We didn’t need to finish this season with gold. We just wanted to finish it on a high. A great game. A lot of laughs. One last reminder of why we started this ridiculous little team in the first place.

Mission very much accomplished.

And perhaps the biggest shock of all… Breakers Math™ took the day off AND WE WON.

Last year, we ended our season celebrating our very first goal.

This year, we end it celebrating a win and a podium finish.

We’re not the benchwarmers nobody wanted anymore. We’re a team that belongs in this competition. A team worth watching. A team that proved in 2026 that we’re not just here to make up numbers.

We’re here to stay.

And apparently… we’re climbing the ladder.

Last year, one goal.
This year, third place.

Who knows what the hell happens next., but we will be back again to find out!!

Our besties over at Just Hockey (Hamilton branch) have clearly caught the chaos bug and decided to basically give stuff away!!

You honestly can’t make this stuff up... Buy one get one free, 50% off deals, absolute madness!! But then again, you probably have to be a little bit bonkers to sign up as a Ngāmotu sponsor.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to upgrade your gear, this is it. Get in quick, grab yourself a bargain, and tell them you're a Ngāmotu Legend... You might score free shipping...
(Hint: we have a code. Just ask 😉)

Big thanks to Just Hockey Hamilton for backing the madness and supporting our seriously fun crew!

Just when you thought hockey 2026 was all over...

SURPRISE... THERE’S ONE GAME LEFT!!

Our Ladies of the Waves are gearing up for one final hit-out, chasing those all-important 3rd place bragging rights.

Season Two has brought a few more goals, some actual wins, a shield victory, a brief stint at the top of the table and just enough confidence to be mildly dangerous.

Can we finish it with one more win?

Who knows? But we’re going to have some Serious Fun finding out.

ONE. MORE. GAME.
Be there to see how it ends.

Speaking of Ngāmotu Legends and winning...

With all the finals excitement, we forgot one little job... officially announcing the winners from our inaugural raffle live draw!

First place: **M. Garcia** – 1/8 beef + Kathmandu trolley, sold by Julz.

Second: **Marisa** – 1/8 beef + 2-burner BBQ, sold by Rach during her supermarket stint. We'll be watching those 2027 sign-up sheets, Marisa...

Third came with a plot twist. The original winner, a player from another club, asked us to regift the jacket to a die-hard Ngāmotu supporter.

So after a quick kōrero, it had to be **Steph** – our top seller with well over 100 tickets, loudest sideline supporter and already funding half the club through her kids' subs.

Massive thanks to everyone who backed our first raffle. You absolutely smashed it.

2027 fundraising ideas are already loading... giving this crew success may have been a mistake.

You actually can’t make this stuff up…

One season with one team. Two seasons in, we’ve got two teams, a collection of underdogs and misfits, a questionable amount of chaos… and apparently, we’re already producing award winners.

Erin kicked things off by taking out TOP GOAL SCORER for our division. First season back in many years and she clearly had some catching up to do. As the MC pointed out, the woman just never stops running.

Absolute weapon.

Then there’s Viv, who returned to the turf with one simple request…

“I just want to have fun.”

Well Viv, that’s basically our entire business model.

We brought the fun, helped bring back that smile and somewhere amongst it all she went and became DIVISION 3 WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

And then there’s Kyson.

He’s been quietly doing his thing for years, playing some bloody good hockey without always getting the recognition that comes with it.

This year? A VERY close second for top goal scorer AND DIVISION 3 MEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Word is he’s considering a crack at Prems next season…
and after tonight, we suspect all three of these legends may have attracted a little attention.

Unfortunately, we REALLY like their vibe.

So while Ngāmotu may be all about Seriously Fun Hockey, we’re prepared to get mildly serious about this one.

We WILL fight to keep them.

Politely, of course.

Probably.

So there it is.

Two seasons.
Three incredible achievements.
One happy trifecta.
A Ngāmotu hat-trick.

For a little club built around the idea that hockey should actually be FUN, we reckon that’s pretty bloody special.

Maybe there really is something in this Seriously Fun Hockey business.

Not the game we were expecting to play.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the way the taste of gold got to us and the beast of winning took hold. We lost the fun for a while and became the players we never wanted to be.

But we fought hard to bring it back. With the help of our epic supporters, we found as much light in the darkness as we could muster and reminded ourselves what Ngāmotu is actually about.

Seriously. Fun. Hockey.

It just wasn’t our time.

One season in, maybe we shouldn’t expect to waltz straight in and take gold. These things take time, and we certainly learned a few hars lessons along the way. Like 5 metres does, in fact, mean 5 metres, sliding into another player is rather uncouth, and sometimes wanting the win too badly makes you forget why you play.

We lost our way a little, and for that we apologise. But we fought hard to the end and tip our hats to Te Kiri for a battle worthy of a Grand Final.

Man of the Mountain went to our ever-present goalie, Dayl. A near-impenetrable wall who finishes the season with a 75% success rate on strokes and more epic saves than we could count. Let’s call it an even 100... ish.

And we couldn’t finish the season without one final Spud.

Management had to intervene and award this one to the coach herself, enthusiastically cheering on a player making an epic run...

“I’M STANDING RIGHT HERE, COACH.”

Turns out she was cheering for someone who wasn’t even on the turf.

Imposter syndrome: Coach Edition.

Not the ending we pictured, but SILVER is still pretty bloody cool.

First season.
The misfits who shouldn’t work on paper.
Ngāmotu’s first ever men’s team, first ever win, and now our first Grand Final silver.

Besides... I’m allergic to gold anyway.

That’s a wrap on the Summits’ first season.

From here, we look to 2027.

Ngāmotu keeps growing.
The mountain keeps rising.
And these misfits definitely aren’t finished yet.

To those who doubted us.
To those who judged us.
To those who quietly hoped this little experiment would fall apart...

Sorry to disappoint.

We showed up. We kept showing up. And when it mattered most, we brought the fight.

Against all the sensible predictions, the misfits have done what the misfits do best... ignored the script and marched straight into the Grand Final.

This team shouldn't work. On paper, it makes about as much sense as a goalie with only one leg... but somehow, it just works.

Now standing between us and the top step are Te Kiri. A team we've never managed to get one over. They've had our number every time. But finals have a funny way of tearing up the history books.

Gold or silver? We honestly don't care. We've already proved every doubter wrong. Everything from here is just another chapter in the Year of the Underdogs.

So this Friday night, 7 August, at 8:00pm, point your GPS toward Stratford, throw on every warm layer you own (she's going to be a proper cold one), and come be part of it. Bring your voice, your mates, your questionable sideline coaching advice, and your charcoal and green.

Let's pack the sidelines and show everyone what Seriously Fun looks like when it's decides a Grand Final is the perfect place to cause a little chaos.

See you there, legends. The Men of the Mountain are ready.
