This is an open competition running for 13 weeks for everyone. You can fish it from the beach with a surf caster or kontiki.

On the sea with a boat, kayak or Jetski.

We would also like to thank our anglers who have competed through the winter to try and become the Gurnard Guru.

As we head into the last week of the 2022 Hunting & Fishing Guns & Tackle Napier Gurnard Guru.

There is a bit of a rush to get into the final Top 10 for the competition final Prizegiving. Dogfather 2 and Outlaw have been fighting it out over the last few weeks. Who will come out on top or will another boat sn**ch the glory?

As we get to the pointy end of the competition with only two more weekly Prizegivings to go, here’s a bit of an update.

The 10th placed fish at the moment is weighing in at well over a kilo.

So, unless you’re trying for a weekly prize, you need to land something a bit bigger to stay in the top 10 prizes.

Reminder, about the weekly Prizegiving. If you’re not there and you’re 1st or 2nd, the prizes will go to the next in line.

After the 4th Hunting & Fishing Guns & Tackle Napier Gurnard Guru weekly Prizegiving, Zane Kinder took home 1st prize of $100 H&F voucher and 2nd prize of $50 Black Magic Tackle voucher.

The 10th heaviest Gurnard is knocking on 1kg so, the fat carrots are there.

After the 2nd week of 13 in the Hunting and Fishing, Guns and Tackle Gurnard Guru, we have had some real fatties weighed in at the shop, with the 10th place overall now sitting at .900kg.

The 2nd week’s winner was Tony McCleland onboard Dogfather 2 who took home a $100 H&F voucher. 2nd place went to Glenn Bailey who received a $50 Black Magic Tackle voucher.

We had the 1st weekly Prizegiving on Friday night and as we made the rule, if either the angler or skipper of the 1st and 2nd prizes are not there, they will be passed to the next placed person that is there.

The first weekly winner of the $100 Hunting and Fishing voucher was Shane Ashford onboard Dogfather 2 with Dave Swain onboard Checkmate taking out the $50 Black Magic Tackle voucher.

Weekly Prizegiving will be held at the Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing club at 7pm each Friday.

Entries are open to anyone and can be done at the club, 30 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri, Napier

Once again, a big thank you to the team at Hunting and Fishing, Guns and Tackle Napier.
