On the 26th of November 1960 the first R F Bennett Shield regatta was held on Lake Pupuke. The event drew a crowd of 4000 spectators and was a great success and was won by West End Rowing Club. Since then the Bennett Shield is an annual fixture where schools and clubs race a 1K course and obtain points to win the shield. In 2022 the regatta was won by North Shore Rowing Club (Westlake Boys and Wes

tlake Girls) and there were 50 events across all divisions. The start is from the NSRC boathouse and the finish is at Sylvan Park where spectators can watch from the grassy slopes. Bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy the racing and food and beverages available from vendors. Results from 2022: 9 competing clubs, 800 athletes and coaches, 3000 spectators.
