WaiCol 3 Upper Hutt 2

A big day at WaiCol today with local rugby clash live on sky, beautiful morning and the pitch was in great order. We faced Upper Hutt who beat us five nil in grading just couple of weeks ago.
Today, we finally clicked and put our best 90 minutes of the season together by a long way. A large, vocal home crowd fired up early as we made a strong start, something lacking to date.
Jayden scored early, they bounced back, Luca scored, they bounced back.
Second half we kept playing positive football and Rory put us ahead, this time no follow up and we held for a well deserved win.
The entire team worked themselves into the ground today. Most boys chose the same day to put in their best school effort that I’ve seen for WaiCol, which was pleasing.
Terrific turn out from family, friends, staff and ex players and supporters. That’s what it’s about!
Friday night awaits in Wellington.

Congrats to Luca 50 games and Braith 75 games, capping next home match.

WaiCol 0 Tawa 5

This exchange played yesterday doubled as our first competition game after being promoted into Premier Reserve for the season. It turned out to be a pretty good reality hit.
An early goal put us on the back foot but we were our own worst enemy in the first half turning the little possession we had over in our half.
The second half saw us create chances but we just couldn’t convert and it wasn’t our day. Every game will be at this level, so the boys know we have to keep working hard.
Well done to the girls for a well earned late equaliser to draw their game.
Thanks to Justin, Kirsty, Sarah, Nicole and Jon who came down to support us.
Back at home on Saturday for another tough challenge but some acknowledgements to follow for a couple of the boys bringing up 50 and 75 games.

WaiCol 0 Upper Hutt 4

It was always going to be a tough game against the top team in grading and without four regular starting players, but the boys stuck at it well today. We were pretty rough to begin, lacking confidence and just overall quite messy. They deserved a three nil half time lead but some simple advice at half time led to greater composure and time on the ball. Best thing about the game was the time given to all those in the squad that havnt played as much this season, good for squad depth.

Although out sized, many of the younger boys stepped up today. Special mention to Jonny for filling in as goalkeeper and saving so many goals for us.

With only one loss in grading and finishing second, we have earned promotion into Premier Reserve grade this season. We are the only school in the Wairarapa playing at this level. This is a really good effort for such a new and young team, although it does mean we have to work harder each week as there are no easy games. This will be good for development during the rest of the year.

Once again the parents were outstanding. We had a huge advantage in the number and volume of support which is fantastic. Enjoy the long weekend.

WaiCol 0 Napier Boys 3

Always a tough battle for us, the hardest game we will play all season but important to learn from losing, as well as winning.

Great local weather day and support at home, we changed up formations which was good to try. Worked hard all game in defence and created some good chances. Second half was better, picking up some pointers from half time that we improved on. Tough result but proud of the effort put in.

MVP Bryn Pumfrey

Great to see Brian Pinker come to watch the game today. He played in the first ever football match at Wairarapa College in 1952!!

Final grading game Saturday morning, early kick off and great chance to test our depth missing four key players from the starting 11.

See you then
