Whangarei Tri Club – Kids Winter Duathlon Series is BACK! 🚴‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We’re excited to be running this awesome series for the second year, and it’s shaping up to be even bigger and better! Get the kids involved, and enjoy some fun racing with friends.

A huge congratulations to our Coach Shenae!

Community Impact Award 2026

Congratulations to Shenae Barker, winner of the Community Impact Award.

Shenae is the driving force behind both the committee and coaching group at Athletics Bay of Islands, yet she would be the first to shift the praise onto those around her and say none of it happens without the team beside her. While balancing full-time work, motherhood, and training for the World Championships, she still finds the time and energy to keep the club moving forward and actively seek new growth opportunities for the club, athletes and coaches.

Having represented New Zealand on the international stage, Shenae brings valuable high-performance knowledge back to the community. She creates engaging training environments by thinking outside the box, integrating triathlon concepts, and helping young athletes grow in confidence and ability.

Shenae’s leadership, energy, and commitment are making a lasting difference in the Bay of Islands community and we look forward to seeing where this energy takes Athletics in the Bay of Islands.

What a fantastic first season it’s been for Athletics Bay of Islands! 🙌

A massive shoutout to our incredible coaches and committee, your time, energy, and passion are what keep this club thriving. Everything we’ve achieved this season is because of you.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to Springbank School for your support and use of your facilities, we truly appreciate it.

Looking ahead… we’re excited about what’s coming next!
Next season brings some big changes and opportunities:
✨ A move to Waipapa
✨ Introduction of a senior programme
✨ More competition nights for our athletes

To make this happen, we need to grow our team. We are on the lookout for more coaches, if you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the time! Please reach out, we’d love to have you on board. All training provided including free accredited coach clinics with NZ champions!

We’re also seeking sponsors for next season to help us continue building opportunities for our athletes and community. If you or someone you know may be interested in supporting grassroots sport in the Bay of Islands, we’d love to connect.
