I am Kiel Brodie the sole administrator behind Invercargill Blues Rugby League. I am a Firefighter, I have been NZ Police vetted and have an Australian Working with Children Check. I will do my best to address enquiries, issues and any feedback you have as quickly as I can manage. I will miss things, I do make mistakes and I will apologise if at fault.
Training
I have played zero games of Rugby League and have now coached maybe 30, but I love the game. When kids attend training Joel Yates, Morgan Dobbie and myself along with some other side kicks teach skill, belief and safe techniques. League is a contact sport, training gets physical, protective gear is not optional, if they wear it in the game they wear it at training. We do our best to balance education and fun.
Referees
Southland Rugby League provides referees in some grades, but the younger grades are reffed by coaches. We cheer our players on, we cheer the refs off. They are all volunteers, they all do their best. The goal is fun! Nobody wins the NRL in Under 8s. If we want more referees then we need to treat them with respect.
Merchandise
We offer the opportunity every year for kids to purchase a playing jersey. This is to support our sponsors, who have kindly put us in some awesome gear. Purchasing playing jerseys is optional, we play in the Blues Team Kit and the goal is that every child has a jersey.
The club currently owns 34 jerseys and has more on back order. Invercargill Blues Rugby Club lends us kit if we need it too.

You can also buy shorts, hoodies, bags and polos from Selector Uniforms.
Fees
We keep these as low as we possibly can. If financial hardship ever becomes a barrier to your child playing please don’t hesitate to reach out. Nobody should miss out.
We will have a muster early in October, maybe a BBQ on a Sunday afternoon. Trainings will kick off 2-3 weeks out from season.
We look forward to seeing the children both new and returning rip in!
Up the Blues!
