SOUTHERN ZONE 3 FINALE
The southern zone campaign has concluded in a fantastic end. Our young Freshmint players were given the opportunity to fill out the Ultramint squad to gain some great experience, which they received being able to play teams from Hornby, Scorpions and Manaia. The team took 3 losses but won a set vs Hornby Falcons.
Spearmint’s goal for this tournament was to build on the previous tournament performance and secure a division 3 spot at nationals. With 5 teams in the pool they needed a top 3 finish to achieve their goal, doing so with a 2-2 record, with wins against West Apex and Smash A, and close losses against Manaia Toloa and West Wolves. The pool was such a competitive mix of results that the guys secured second in the pool and 14th seed for nationals in Div 3.
This result places Spearmint 10th in the entire southern zone men’s comp! Cool to see for our first ever time competing.
We’re now finalising the roster for nationals in Tauranga in October, keep an eye of for the announcement and thanks for all the support.

REDEMPTION AT SOUTHERN ZONE 2
What a weekend and what a difference! The nerves have been shaken off for our main squad.
Both our Haste men teams found ourselves in a pool of 3 with each other and Hornby Falcons.
Ultramint were up first against the Falcons and went down in a 3-1 loss while they built team chemistry, with some new players joining the team for this tourney. Up next was Spearmint vs Ultramint, filled with energy and banter, the main squad took the win, but not without Ultramint finding that chemistry and taking a set from their fellow club team.
The final game of day one was Spearmint taking on the Falcons for top of the pool and the boys took the 3-1 win with a good battle!
Day two was a day of clean sweeps. Ultramint played their final game vs Manaia Tau and took the 3-0 win thanks to solid defence and that tournament development kicking in, bringing the team their first ever southern zone win.
Spearmint went into the semi-final playoff against Scorpions B, and having lost to them 3-2 at southern zone one were out for redemption, finding it with the 3-0 sweep and onto the final.
As fate would have it, they had their chance at redemption again, coming up against Smash A who they had also taken a 3-2 loss to at southern zone one. Whatever clicked for the team on day 2 held firm, taking a final 3-0 sweep against Smash A with a statement 25-10 set one win. It’s an undefeated finish for the main squad!
The final zone tourney is a month out, and Spearmint will be playing off for a Div 3 spot at nationals in October. Vibes are good! 🏐
