I just heard the first Pīpīwharauroa (Shining Cuckoo) in the garden this morning, while feeding the chickens. These little guys fly all the way from places like The Solomons and PNG to spend their Summers here in NZ, so their song is a definite sign that Spring has arrived! Despite today's weather 🤣

Pīpīwharauroa lay eggs in the nest of riroriro (grey warblers). The baby cuckoo ejects the host nestlings, and, mimicking the call of a grey warbler chick, demands food from its obliging ‘foster’ parents! Brutal, but even with this parasitic challenge warbler populations are plentiful and thriving. While not currently threatened, cuckoo numbers are declining.

What lesson can we take from the fate of the Riroriro? Even in the face of adversity and challenge, we CAN thrive! If you are facing a challenge that feels overwhelming, let's have a conversation 💛

A relatively small cuckoo with iridescent dark green plumage upperparts and white below with narrow dark green transverse bands. Immature plumage is slightly duller, especially on the throat and chest, with less distinct ventral barring.

Lost your mojo? Let me help you find it :)

Seems like others have their lives sorted, but they are just lucky, right? You've been dealt a b**g hand, your struggles have been harder than theirs, and no one one really GETS you. Well I say BU****IT to that!
Your life isn't waiting to begin. It’s waiting to be lived. If you are ready to get over your when-itis (my life will be sorted when....), then take one small step and get in touch today. It will cost you nothing 👇

Tune in for the next 10 Mondays, when we set about busting some myths that might be holding you back.

MYTH #1 Taking care of myself is selfish

Taking some time out for self-care is selfish, right? I mean the people/animal/things around me NEED me and I'd be neglecting them by doing something for myself...right??

WRONG! In fact the opposite is true - the more you take care of you, the more you have to give to others. There are all sorts of analogies (or are they metaphors? I get those confused!) that help explain this...such as 'You need a full cup to be able to give to others' and 'Put your own oxygen mask on first', etc etc.

If you are ready to take responsibility for YOU and show up as your best self in order to be valuable to the world around you, then drop me a message and we'll come up with a plan :)

As we settle into the Matariki long weekend, what better time to take a moment to pause and reflect :)

Have you ever completed a 'Wheel of Life'? It's a good, general overview to find out where your journey is a little bumpy! Click the link below for access to an editable version. Change each segment of the wheel to reflect what aspects are important for balance in your life, print it out, and complete 🙌

Another great exercise to try for a couple of days is an emotional audit:
* A few times a day, take a moment to reflect on what you have been thinking about. What emotion is attached to that thought? Energy flows where focus goes - if your focus is predominantly on what's missing, what's wrong, or what seems impossible, and the negative emotions attached to those thoughts, THAT is where you will be spending your energy. Could you be spending yours a little more wisely? 🤔 Remember thoughts become things!

I'm here if you would like some help unpacking any of the above :)

Peace out,
Paula
