Hi everyone, Reef here π€
Just giving an update - well I came up to Ruakaka last week for the Schools MX Challenge but had a bit of a crash and im still here in Whangarei Hospital.
I'd just had a month off riding and came back on this sand track for the School Event.
Practice round went well, I was really enjoying the sand and getting some good speed and qualified 5th in my class.
Race 1 I wasn't that happy with, I got an average start but battled my way into around 4th or 5th and lost concentration on a couple of corners and fell off twice and dropped positions and ended up 7th.
Race 2 - another hard start but battled my way up around 5th/6th pretty quickly. I had a lot of race to go so I was pushing to get myself to get up closer and get past a couple more riders.
I came around a corner and the sand was really deep and soft I almost tipped off. I didnt want to come off, so i tried to gas my way out of it. Unfortunately the bike started to come out from under me and I "super manned" it and I couldnt hold on. I got unlucky and the bike fishtailed and shot out from under me and I ended up landing on the bike. Im pretty sure it was the rear brake disc that got me, just under the ribs and mashed my Kidney.
That was day over for me and I ended up in Hospital here in Whangarei. Ive been here for 5 days so far with Mum & Dad.
The good news is, I managed to contribute 41 points towards our Schools total and Mercury Bay Area School ended up coming SECOND OVERALL for the 29 schools that entered!!
Last year when I rode here I was around Top 20 - My goal this year was a Top 10 - so I was really happy with sitting around Top 5 when I crashed.
Everything and everybody here at this Hospital have been so awesome. The Dr's and Nurses are so friendly and there is so much food. And there's unlimited WiFi π€
The Dr has told me that if I sleep ok tonight, I might be able to go home tomorrow. I am looking forward to going home.
I think I will be out for about 8 weeks at least. Mum said that's a huge setback for my progress, but i told her it's not a setback, its just a speedbump. My body is a bit of a p***y really, it needs to keep up. π€ͺ
Thankyou to everyone that has been sending nice messages and the phone calls and stuff. Ill be back soon.
