If you’re wanting to help your horse get the best out of these quieter months, then body work should be top of that list!
A sports therapy treatment will help identify any tension through the body, help identify any weakness, encourage healthy development of soft tissues, so they can enjoy their turn out time!

I was fortunate to work with this very cool dude last Friday. 😎

Topaz is only 7 months old and has already had quite the adventure.

After experiencing staggers, he lost his balance and toppled over an equi-fence, becoming entangled. Thankfully, his owner was home at the time and was able to free him within minutes.

Following the incident, Topaz presented with several areas of muscular tension and compensation throughout his body. Being suspended with his head and neck at an unnatural angle placed additional strain on his cervical region, resulting in restrictions that required chiropractic adjustment by a trusted and qualified professional.
Combined with soft tissue bodywork that I could provide, these treatments aim to restore mobility, relieve muscular tension, and support healthy movement patterns during this important stage of growth and development

He was an excellent patient—curious, inquisitive, and incredibly aware of his body. There were several moments during the session where he visibly relaxed, releasing tension and simply enjoying the process.

He is the youngest horse I have worked on, and I found it so fascinating how in tune he was for a baby- proof that they’re never too young for short targeted work if required!
His mum deserves a shout out too, as she was such a calm and gentle presence for him when he sought her out, a testament to her nature as a mare!

Topaz is fortunate to have a dedicated team of equine professionals supporting him, and I look forward to following his progress over the coming months.

Due to such high interest I will be hosting another Poles Clinic on Sunday 31st May at Heathcote Equestrian.

Pole work exercises can be performed in hand or ridden, and will improve your horses strength, balance, rhythm, co-ordination, while helping rider with balance, seeing strides, riding straight, and increasing confidence and trust in their partnership with their horse 😇

Thank you to everyone who’s been in touch since I advertised! I am blown away by the amount of eager horse enthusiasts and am hoping to make this a regular (monthly) thing.

Please get in touch if you are interested to ride on Sunday 31st May 😇 Katie Swansbury

Something I’ve been looking forward to share with the locals to Hawke’s Bay:

My first Pole’s Clinic!

Details attached to the poster:

Come and enjoy some quality time with your horse or pony, over a range of pole work exercises that will help with both you and your horse’s balance, co-ordination, strength and rhythm, while developing trust, confidence and partnership with your horse or pony.

With my guidance and education, I will help assist all levels of riders or horses ability in a safe and enjoyable environment - a great way to get some last minute autumn training in before the winter weather sets in. Suitable for beginner riders, lead rein riders (if parents are prepared to lead them over the course), young/green horses as a first outing/for education, so long as they are safe to handle. Nervous riders, competent riders, pony clubbers, adult club riders, dressage riders… all are welcome!

Lessons will be 45 minutes long for individual or paired sessions- 1 hour for groups of 4.
Please be prepared to hop off and walk some of the lines/exercises to get the most out of the session.

Poles will be set up for walk and trot this weekend, with the possibility of having some of them raised depending on skill set.

To book in, please get in contact via messenger, or reach out to Katie Swansbury or text on 0277830463.

A massive thank you to Jo and her family for allowing us the use of her beautiful facilities and space.

Autumn always feels like a beautiful time to embrace change 🍂

With March marking the end of summer, the 2025–2026 competition season, and the financial year for my business, it feels like the right time to share a few updates as we move into the quieter winter months.

Travel costs:
I’ve had a good look at my expenses alongside my accountant, and with the ongoing rise in diesel, RUC, and vehicle maintenance, I do need to adjust my travel rate. This will increase from 35c/km to 60c/km, effective immediately. If fuel prices ease, I will absolutely review and adjust this again.

Availability changes:
Hudson turns 5 in July and will be starting school, which means my schedule will naturally shift.Weekend travel will likely reduce to once a month (rather than fortnightly), with some flexibility during school holidays.

I will still be travelling to outside regions, but instead of every 6 weeks, it will likely be closer to every 3 months.

Upcoming travel dates:
• April 30th– May 1st: Palmerston North & surrounding areas
• May 2nd– 3rd: Ruapehu region
• May 14th– 17th: Wairarapa region
• June 11th– 12th: Ruapehu region
• June 13th– 14th: Palmerston North & surrounds
•June 25th– 28th: Wairarapa region

A big thank you to all my clients over the past 12 months — thank you for trusting me with your horses. Your ongoing support means everything to my business.

And a special thank you for your understanding when Hudson needs to come along. I know it doesn’t always make for the smoothest session, and I truly appreciate the kindness and patience shown toward both of us.

As we move through this seasonal shift, I’m looking forward to what winter brings and will share updated travel plans again in September.

Hawke’s Bay clients: I remain available weekly on Thursdays and Fridays.

Thank you all again — I appreciate you more than you know 🤍
