What a wonderful evening of Cricket. A absolute scorcher at Glenview Park saw Hoof Hearted bat first. Their opening partnership got off like a rocket. Boundaries flowed freely. The Musos needed to break that pair. The Skip had his chances but alas dropped three catches before finally snaffling one off Marcus' bowling. He returned the favour catching one off Oaks' bowling. Mike cleaned one out and Oaks took the fourth, his second, on the final ball of the innings. Catches win matches and six drops didn't help th Musos as the HH headed to 163 for 4.

The Musos openers ticked away accumulating runs in the 2nd innings. Oaks got out caught and Mike managed a solid 30 retirement. Khanin came and went, Marcus scored freely and John having rushed in from a 30 minute drive was out for one off his second ball. Small swings saw the run rate slip away and the Musos went down having only accumulated 116 for nine off their twenty overs. Marcus awarded Ivan the man of the match for showing up and keeping, bowling and batting still nursing a sore back. On ya Ivan! Another great evening was had and the chaps left happy as the glory lies in the game.

The sun gods shined down on Flagstaff Park this Wednesday. A beautiful evening for cricket and TR Group Lions won the toss and opted to field.

Batting first is a rarity for the Musos, preferring to chase. Oaks and Mike opened and Oaks added 4 to the score sheet through 3rd Man off the first ball. Oaks got a quick 18 before being caught attrmpting to hit out over the short boundaries at flaggies. Mike rotated strike. John came in first drop and proceeded to pummell the opposition for 3 sixes and a quick 30 retirement as Mike continued to rotate the strike. Brookie step in and followed John's lead with 2 sixes and another quick 30 retirement... and Mike rotated the strike before he followed Oaks lead and was caught (15). The total was looking like it was going to be massive, then entered Stu (9 not out), Shane (4), Doug (0) and Marcus (10 not out) to face the better bowlers and the run rate slowed. A respectable 173 was set for the chase.

The TR Lions openers hit out on the small ground with some quick boundaries and were matching the run rate well. They also hit a couple of sixes and kept the scoreboard ticking over. The Musos bowling attack was on form though and wickets fell. Catches win matches and Marcus took 2 and one each for Shane and Stu. Marcus also took 2 wickets, as did Brooky and Doug got 3. The remainder 3 went to Oaks, Mike and Piron. There were accusations of creative accounting as the Lions needed a run a ball off the last three overs. But calm under pressure the Musis prevailed. Behind the stumps Ivan, in his come back game, stumped one in penultimate over and Marcus claimed his 2nd and the final scalp on the 3rd ball of the 2oth over. The Lions were all out 10 runs shy. Musis were the winners on the day. Marcus took out the converted MoM award for all round excellence and a winning over.

Wednesday saw Raymond Park serve as the Colosseum for the clash against perennial rivals, the Musos and the Sledgehammers.
The 'hammers batted first and the Musos, 1one player down and two in bare-feet took to a green, slow outfield. The Sledgehammers were quick to score but KP sent them packing in the third over with catch to a shoeless Dave at backward square then a c&b to finish off the over. The Musos catching was amazing, when held, KP and Mitch both took screamers. The keepers both vied for the best drop with John taking honours with three attempts at one sitter before palming ot ground.

The Musos restricted the opposition to 123 and their openers took to the crease with confidence. No one was sure why. As they took 2 overs to score any runs off the bat and they were both out caught behind for 7 runs a piece. KP stepped up with Stu and set a partnership of one's and twos before another catch saw Mitch replace KP and our first boundary was stuck. Stu anchored an end whilst Mitch added runs before being hit in his boxless balls and soon after being caught behind having knicked the ball with a flung bat and being caught behind. This brought up Dave who took a couple of over to get his eye in. When he did it was hammer time and the Musos took victory with a Dave hit four with 2 and a half overs to go.
Musos were the winners on the day!
And Dave got the MoM for turning up, even if it was shoeless!

It's looking like we'll get to gather together in our white stuff this Wednesday.

Hopefully, that was the last of the Wednesday wetness.

The new cricket year finally arrived after the Christmas break, and the Musos strode confidently onto the pitch, older, wiser and thicker around the girth. Their opponents seeking to best them were the Undateables, whose physical shortcomings were amplified by the Musos Adonis like good looks. That opening aesthetic advantage was soon shown on the pitch, as the Musos bowled tightly. Wides were their primary source of scoring, as a passing shower eroded the bowlers previous sense of control. Wickets were few, with John's sharp caught and bowled only bested by KP's spectacular one handed grab in the slips off Marcus. A strong overall bowling effort meant an under par 138 was required for victory.

In response the Musos openers busied themselves with the chase, scoring freely until Paul 'Elephant Man' Oakley was bowled around his legs for 22. Mike Lee followed soon after for 23, but the platform had been laid for new recruit John to hit a retiring 30, and then Marcus and KP to hit the winning runs with overs to spare.

KP was awarded Player of the Day for his catch and tomahawk like hurl of the bat, while the other teams in the competition were put on notice like Greenland, that the Musos mean business in 2026.

Wednesday was HOT! Cricket was hot. The Musos vs the Thrusters at Ashurst Park was always going to be a one sided affair.
The Musos only mustered 8 (and a half, good to see you Ivan) for the last game of the calender year. After a 4 week hiatus enthusiasm was high but there is not much that can be done with such large gaps in the field. The Thrusters set a 166 total by pushing 2's around.
They responded by bowling some great lines and the Musos faltered, 120 not enough to get the win.
Mitch got the MoM award for great bowling, fielding and a wonderfully struck 6.

Wow what a Wednesday!
Celebrating a thwated act of rebellion under the gaze of a super-moon on a decidedly summer like evening, the Musos donned their uniforms of heroism to pursue their gentlemen's pleasure.
A return to the Dominion, Dominion Park, that is, eight Musos took to the field against a vocally enthuastic Crazed Wombats. The Wombats opened well and pushed through for opening overs in double figures. As the remainder of the Musos dawdled in to position, the gaps closed and the runs were stemmed, somewhat. The Musos bowled well against a good batting team claiming 6 wickets in the 20 overs. Oaks took 2, Mitch 1 Khanin 1, Mark 1 and Perone our newest ring-in cameoed with 1. Catches went to the keeper Stu, Khanin, KP, and Shane. CW ran every over throw and pushed chances which was rewarded with a first innings score of 167.

A great score to chase the Musos openers felt confident in their stride to the crease. That is where their enthusiasm ended. Both gone for a joint score of 4 runs the foundations didn't look strong. With Mark and Khanin started the run chase. K-Man went for 19, and Stu fell early, Marcus Cricketus batted on. KP added.to the score with another 19. Extras in the form of wides bowled kept the run rate ticking over. The fielding team played well but we're generally less successful as humans. Mark batted through to his 31 retirement target and Perone, Mitch and Shane added runs. However, the target was a stretch to far and the Men in White walked off at the end of the 20 overs happy as always bit 34 runs shy of victory. Bangers and beer were the winners on the day. And Marcus Cricketus was awarded the MoM for an all round effort. A great night was had and the moral victory was won!

Wednesday saw a long awaited reunion between the Musos and the Lumee Spuds. It's been a few seasons since our paths had crossed in the regular league. The Musos opted to field the first innings. The slower paced spin attack opened well KP took a couple of sharp wickets. Adam was in on the action and catches in the deep stuck. The over of the game was delivered by Marcus Cricketus who bowled a 2 wickets maiden. The Spuds etched out a respectable 119 leving the Musos a run a ball to claim victory.

A slow and steady approach was again taken by the openers Oaks and Mike. The required run rate was kept in check by the number of wides the Spuds bowled. Definitely the highest scoring factor of the game. As such it was with little effort and just the loss of 3 wickets, the Musos smashed the Spuds with five overs remaining. The MoM was awarded by Shane to Mark for his outstanding over with the ball.

We're back after a hectic winter, Wednesday becomes the saviour of the gentlemen's soul. The Musos donned their whites for the 2025/26 season opener against the Tamahere Dad's Army in Tamahere. The weather gods shone down on the social cricket league and an excellent evening set the stage for some thrilling sport.

Taking to the field for the first innings, the Musos preformed well. A low scoring TDA failed to connect with bat to ball. Their inningdblacking any boundaries. Shane took 2 wickets, as did Doug, Brooky and Mitch snagged one each, Mike combined with Stu for a run-out and a dubious umpires decision denied Adam one also. He managed a great catch though and Oaks, after an intial fumble caughy a brace. A soggy outfield assisted the fielding sides and accurate bowling by the Musos contained TDA to 111 runs, a Nelson.

Runs were not flowing for the Musos in the first couple of overs. The an early departure for Oaks brought Brooky to the crease and Dave did what Dave does and hit a couple of back to back sixes. Unfortunately
His luck didn't last and he was caught on 18 runs. The Musos continued to keep ahead of the required run rate. A series of quick wickets slowed the pace and soon the middle order was leaving as quick as they took the crease. Mike batted through holding his crease for much of the game, as his partners came and went. He finally feel for 21 and the tail was called upon to wag. With 40 runs needed off six overs it was a doable task. With the help of some loose wides by TDA and quick running the mMusos kept pace with the target. With 7 down the keeping wickets was the order. Then Stu ran himself out, the Doug ran himself out leaving KP an Adam to achieve a run a bowl final two overs. And they did. Then with two needed from two balls victory was but a sniff away. KP played a short shot and Adam took off calling the run. With two batters at one end the TDA took the stumps and Adma had completed the attract of self run-outs one run shy of a tie and two shy of victory. So close. Such fun. The Nelson curse plays out even in social cricket. Shane took the MoM award for his bowling efforts. The smiles from the return cricket beamed in defeat. Next week we'll have another crack.
