Talk about a walk in the past..Waiau under 16 1988..a couple have passed on Crazy, Doobie, RIP.. Seeing Waiau Rugby Club on the field just bought back so many fond memories. Those days contributed to the person I have become today.

That’s a wrap for Wairoa Home Round 2026.

Ngā mihi nui to Wairoa Rugby Sub Union for organising an awesome event.
This season alone is something we’re grateful for. We were lucky enough to have our club back on the field and to make it all the way to the finals, that’s something we don’t take lightly and something we’re incredibly proud of.

Our final against Tapuae Sports Club was a tough battle out on the field. They came out strong and set the tone early, and while it wasn’t our day on the scoreboard, we gave it everything we had until the final whistle.

YMP Rugby & Sports Club Nuhaka Sports & Recreation Club Wairoa Athletic Sports Club Mahia Rugby Football Club, Thank you all for an awesome and exciting competition.

To all our past and present players, across every era and every code Waiau has been part of, you are the foundation of who we are today. This jersey carries all of you.
A big thank you to Turuki (Te Wairoa Medical Centre) for your continued support, we appreciate everything you do for our team.

Lastly, A heartfelt thank you to our supporters and our whānau of Waiau near and far, your aroha and tautoko from the sidelines, and our socials never go un-noticed. Big mihi to our whānau who came home from Wellington, Auckland, Rotorua, Gisborne and the Lake to stand with us to be part of our re-birthing.

We also want to acknowledge our Players of the Days.

Second game of the day and what a showdown it was between two strong sides ❤️💙
Both Waiau and Nūhaka played outstanding rugby. Full heart and full effort from start to finish.
Final score saw Waiau take the win 29–0.
What an incredible comeback and a performance to be proud of! Our whānau showed up and showed out, backing our teams all the way.

Ngā mihi nui to Nuhaka Sports & Recreation Club and YMP Rugby & Sports Club for the awesome games, true sportsmanship.

Now we reset and refocus as we head into Finals against Tapuae Sports Club 💪

What a proud Saturday it was for our whānau ❤️

To see our Waiau colours back in action after 30+ years was something truly special. The pride, the memories, the energy.
You could feel it all day.

A beautiful reminder of where we’ve come from and the strength that still lives within our people. Here’s to keeping the legacy alive for our next generations.

Waiau strong, always ❤️
