Hey Spoke and Stone people, Andy here.
You'll all know I had a bit of a crash 4 weeks ago.
I somehow managed to turn a bike ride into an induced coma, a face held together with titanium, and a spinal brace that I'll be wearing for a few more months.
So what's recovery actually like?
Slow.
Progress isn't measured in kilometres, watts, or race results. It's measured in tiny achievements. Legs feeling a little stronger when walking. The doctors being happy with how things are healing. Being able to concentrate for a bit longer. Sleeping a little better.
It's the ultimate lesson in marginal gains.
Right now I'm in a holding pattern. The surgeons and medical team have done their work. My job is simply to heal and give my body the time it needs before I can even think about rebuilding on the bike.
There are no shortcuts. No hacks. No training plans. No way to rush the process.
It's as much a mental challenge as a physical one. Staying positive, focusing on the small wins, and trusting that enough of those small wins eventually become a big one.
I can't wait to get to the stage where rebuilding is on the cards. For now, it's one day at a time and one small gain at a time.
Thanks for all the messages, support, and check-ins. They genuinely make a difference.
