The Pacific Surf Bathing Club was indeed a pioneer in the New Zealand lifesaving movement, particularly in the Otago region. It was one of the country's earliest surf lifesaving organisations, forming during a period when the rapid growth in the popularity of surf bathing led to a critical need for organized rescue services
December 1910: The Pacific Surf Bathing Club was formed, starting with only four members in its first season.
January 1911: The club held its official opening at Ocean Beach on a Saturday afternoon, attracting nearly 5,000 spectators to the waterfront.
August 1911: Membership grew rapidly to 450 members, including 200 women.
September 2024: The club was dissolved.
