Hurunui Multi-Sport Club

Hurunui Multi-Sport Club We are a small but mighty multisport club servicing athletes in the Hurunui area.

We are dedicated to promoting a fun, inclusive, family-friendly community where our members achieve their goals within the related sports of triathlon, duathlon and multi-sport. Our club was formed on the realisation from a group of multisport athletes that Hurunui was lacking a formal club for our local athletes to help with opportunities in training, racing and social events related to multispor

t. We are a passionate group of athletes with sportsmanship and team camaraderie at the heart of our club. We want to create a supportive environment to help athletes on their journey, whether they are an Elite Age Group Athlete, a Weekend Warrior, or a Social Athlete - we are here to support everyone towards achieving their goals! Our aim is to make everyone feel welcome, build confidence in the realm of Triathlon and Multi-Sport and have an absolute blast while doing it!

Congratulations to the Mechanical Magnet of the season - James McCone

This award goes to the person who seemed to attract the most mechanical mishaps throughout the season. The winner was chosen based on frequency of mechanical incidents with this person seeming to struggle with the concept of charging his bike gears, which may be due to his few and far between bike rides.

Congratulations to our Livestock Solutions Ltd Members Choice winners - Blair and Bex Green

This award is about recognising the person or people who makes the club what it is — as voted by the members themselves.
It celebrates someone who consistently shows up, supports others, and contributes to the club in a way that might not always be loud or visible, but is deeply felt. Whether it’s encouraging others at events, helping behind the scenes, bringing great energy, or simply being someone, people enjoy being around, this person embodies the spirit of our club.
The Members’ Choice Award isn’t about results or podiums — it’s about character, connection, and contribution. It reflects who our members value most and who they believe represents the heart of Hurunui Multisport Club.

Thank you to Livestock Solutions Ltd for sponsoring this trophy.

Congratulations to our BEE FIT Overall Multisporter of the Year - Amanda Bowie

This award recognises someone who has excelled across all disciplines — cycling, kayaking, and running — while also making a strong contribution to the club. In selecting this recipient, we considered not only performance across each discipline, but also their consistency, participation, support for others, and the club spirit and attitude they bring.
This athlete has shown real commitment to multisport, taking on events beyond the club and continually stepping up to new challenges. Over the past season, they’ve made massive improvements across all three disciplines, which is a credit to their hard work and determination. A standout highlight was earning a podium spot at Coast to Coast which is an outstanding achievement.
Along the way, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. They’ve shown true resilience, bouncing back from a few tumbles and setbacks with grit and good humour. More than anything, they embody what Hurunui Multisport is all about — getting involved, giving things a go, and encouraging others every step of the way.

Thank you to Bee Fit for sponsoring this trophy.

Congratulations to our Amuri Lions Club Youth Award winner - Jake Abbo

The Youth Award recognises a young athlete who has shown outstanding commitment to multisport.
This isn’t just about results — it’s about attitude, improvement, willingness to learn, and being a great club member. This young person has embraced the challenge of multisport, encouraged others, and shown real promise for the future. There may even be evidence of this young member dragging our club’s cyclist of the year at a certain multisport event. …so it’s safe to say the future of this club is in very good — and very fast — hands.

Thank you to the Amuri Lions Club for supporting our club!

This is someone who brings quiet confidence to every paddle, is an absolute pleasure to be alongside on the water and backs their ambition with real dedication to training. Their strength and consistency speak for themselves, and with the attitude they bring, they’ve got an incredibly bright and promising future ahead.
This paddler has demonstrated strength, consistency, and a real passion for kayaking, even with the added pressure of the in-house competition.

Congratulations to our Scotty Browns NZ Overall Cyclist of the Year - William Flapper

The Overall Cyclist of the Year celebrates the rider who has made their mark on the entire season — not just on the results sheet, but in the way they’ve raced, improved, and influenced those around them. It recognises someone who brings consistency and grit, pushes the pace, and keeps the competition honest.
It’s as much about presence as performance — the rider who adds something to every race, fuels the banter, and raises the standard simply by rolling up to the start line.
This rider didn’t just perform out on course — they became a key part of the Tuesday night banter. Week after week, they were the name on everyone’s lips, usually followed by, “Surely it’s time they go up a grade?”
But behind all of that was genuine progress. Big efforts, smart racing, and noticeable improvement across the season made them not just a competitor, but someone who lifted the level of racing for everyone around them.
This cyclist made things just competitive enough to keep everyone slightly annoyed — in the best possible way. They brought intensity, consistency, and just enough controversy to keep things interesting — exactly what good club racing is all about.

Thank you to Scotty Browns for sponsoring this trophy.

Congratulations to our Waihui Agriculture Most Improved Cyclist - Nathan Absalom

The Most Improved Cyclist recognises someone who has shown significant development over the season.
This isn’t necessarily about finishing first — it’s about progress. We looked at improvements in times, confidence in racing, consistency, and overall growth.
This person had a bold look – wearing shorts over lycra in a sea of lycra. Part cyclist, part farmer, part “I’m not fully committing to this cycling thing just yet.” And you could always spot them in the bunch — not because of their speed… but because of the unmistakable flutter of extra material in the breeze.
But here’s the thing — we’ve watched the evolution. Their confidence has grown. The shorts slowly disappeared. The lycra stood proudly on its own. And with it came faster times, stronger riding… and possibly a few shocked spectators who didn’t realise what had been hidden all along. This rider has clearly put in the work — turning up to races, training consistently, and pushing themselves outside their comfort zone.

Thank you to Waihui Agriculture for sponsoring this trophy.

Congratulations to Nick Abbott on receiving the Green Family Club Legend Award.

This award recognises someone who goes above and beyond for the club — not just through their own participation, but through the way they lift others around them. It celebrates generosity, commitment, and the quiet behind-the-scenes contributions that help make our club stronger.
This year’s recipient truly embodies that spirit. He has generously made his own gear available for club use, helping remove barriers so others can get involved and give things a go. On top of that, he’s been incredibly encouraging of fellow athletes and has quietly organised shuttles behind the scenes. His willingness to share both his time and equipment has made a real difference to the supportive environment we value so much.

Thank you to the Green Family for sponsoring this trophy.
