๐ Rฤhui in Place โ West Coast Coastline
A rฤhui remains in place along the West Coast coastline from Ross to Charleston following the tragic incident last weekend, where a person was swept into the sea at Blaketown Beach.
A rฤhui is a Mฤori cultural practice that places a temporary restriction on activities such as gathering kaimoana (seafood) and sea-based recreation as a sign of respect and protection. This rฤhui will remain in place until Sunday.
Today, Police, Surf Life Saving, emergency services, volunteers, and whฤnau will be carrying out an extensive search of the coastline. Our thoughts and aroha are with the family, friends, and all those involved in the search effort.
We kindly ask our community to
โก๏ธ Respect the rฤhui
โก๏ธ Keep away from the coastline where search teams are operating
โก๏ธ Hold space for the whฤnau during this difficult time
Ngฤ mihi to everyone supporting the search and showing manaakitanga during this sad time.
