The Back Nine is a bit big these days! Par 4s to be exact. So we've split up to cover both the back and the front 9 for this awesome new team series to hit the fairways and courses of Christchurch, Canterbury. The Lads and Lasses put together some good rounds for the first event but will be looking to return from the dead for the next event in the series all the same! Highlights of the weekend go to Tania Thompson for securing the only ace and taking home all the dough! Mason also came away with a win off the fairways, securing the jar of jellie beans!

πŸš—β„οΈGeneration Open Results – Lake Ohau Lodgeβ„οΈπŸš—

Mark Paku – MA40 – 1st (-9) πŸ†
Dwayne Aberhart – MA2 – 1st (-3) πŸ†
Tim Stewart – MA40 – 2nd (-5)
Duane Fisher – MA1 – 4th (-9)
James Hall – MA1 – 6th (-7)
Clinton Neho – MPO – 4th (-5)
David Frost – MA2 – T7th (+1)

The Back Nine’s first official team roadie took place last weekend, with a rather wet drive down to Lake Ohau to compete in the Generation Open. Lucky for us the weather gods put on a stunning day for the tournament itself!

What a roadie it was! Plenty of banter and laughs were had all round, plenty of BBQ meat and pies were consumed, a few fish spotted, and some discs lost, but all that made for the many memories we've walked away with, and a few we suspect will stick around and haunt those for some time to come.

Few special mentions:

-Jimmy not only slept through his alarms but also through Dwayne’s heavy fists banging on his front door, to put everyone at least half an hour behind schedule before we even departed Christchurch.

-Dwayne was the only one to lose disc(s), Yes more than one over the weekend. And was more interested in the fish in the pond than helping the rest of us look for his own discs later that evening on the recovery attempt with torches in hand! (they were glow discs...)

-Mark woke the entire camp up with an early morning coughing fit. (5am) Jimmy could have probably done with that the previous morning…

It also turns out the great idea of tenting in the -3-degree overnight temps is less than desirable and although it may have given more character to the experience, it’s safe to say the team will be upgrading their accommodation next time around! Haha.
However, it was all worth it to play on a one-of-a-kind course with the backdrop of such majestic views of lake Ohau and the surrounding ranges. The course in brief is short but technical with elevation and lines of play quite different to the local Christchurch courses we are familiar with.

With that said we crowned not one but two! Champions from our team in their respective divisions! Dwayne took down his first win in the MA2 division in a 2nd round come back. Whilst Mark also claimed him first win in the MA40 division fairly comfortably after posting a hot first round score. Special mention also goes out to Timmy, who took 2nd place in the MA40 division as well! Overall everyone placed within the top 10/ half of their divisions, and this would be one of the most successful tournaments to date for the team!

A huuuge shout out goes to Generation Disc Golf for putting on this well run event which we are more than eager to attend again next year, wherever that may be!

Next of the cards is the Charteris Bay Clash this coming weekend! Where we are looking to get a few more jerseys on the podiums!

April Chains - Flex Round Results

James Hall – MPO – 2nd (-11)
Clinton Neho – MPO – T4th (-4)
Mike Innes – MPO – 6th (-2)
Hariata Neho – FA40 – 1st (-2)
Tania Thompson – FA40 – 2nd (-1)
Iain Marshall – MA4 – 6th (E)

Some of the Back Nine team competed this past Sunday in the April Chains – Flex Start @ Jellie Park, serving as a fundraiser event for UC Disc Golf Club.
We were more than happy to show our support whilst getting the opportunity to play a sanctioned round as well. The flex start format made for a much more relaxing and casual feel to a sanctioned round of disc golf, making it the ideal setting for the newer players in the local community to play their first sanctioned round of disc golf over the weekend!

A huge thanks must go to TD, Jake Meikle and the UC Disc Golf Club for putting on something a little different in the local scene in the way of a sanctioned event!
We’ll certainly all be chucking our hand up for the next flex start tournament to come hopefully!

As for the team, the no warm up, just get stuck right into start it seemed to work the trick! Jimmy proved to live up to his Jammy nickname picking up a tree assisted ACE on hole 4. His first official sanctioned ACE and posting a new PB on the course as well.

Overall, the team stayed all par and under for the 1 round event, and certainly made their presence felt in some of the more experienced divisions on offer.

Next on the cards for the team is the Generation Open in Lake Ohau.

Clinton Neho – MPO – 13th
Ian Marshall – MA40 – T13th
Tim Stewart – MA40 – T13th

The β€˜Not so windy’ Winds of Warren Tournament presented some interesting results across the board for the team this past weekend.

Firstly, and huge congratulations to Tania Thompson for taking down the FA40 division in her first official PDGA sanctioned event! Might be time to get that PDGA number now ha-ha! Mark Paku and Hariata Neho walked away with 2nd places in their respective divisions as well.

As for the rest, some of us finally found our feet in a tournament setting while others unfortunately fell from grace and will surely look to come out firing in the next tournament on the horizon at The Charteris Bay Charge 2025.

A huge thanks goes out to UC Disc Golf Club and debut tournament director Jake Meikle for putting on well run tournament! We look forward to what you have coming up in the future in the local Christchurch disc golf scene!

Alright Disc Golfers! Get ready for some friendly rivalry! πŸ₯πŸ”₯

This Sunday, The Back Nine & Disc Daddies - NZ are kicking off our brand new Club Clash Series (CCS) right here in Christchurch!

The first epic showdown will be Disc Daddies against the Back Nine crew! We'll be battling it out at the legendary Bottle Lake Disc Golf course.

Here's the plan for Sunday:

We'll start with one round of doubles (match play)!
Then, we'll follow it up with a challenging round of singles to see who truly reigns supreme (for now πŸ˜‰).

Think your crew or club has what it takes? Do you want to test your skills against other disc golf enthusiasts?

Get in touch with us if you and your team are keen to be part of the CCS action in future rounds! Let's build a fun and competitive disc golf community!

Let the clashes begin! πŸ’ͺ
