The Back Nineβs first official team roadie took place last weekend, with a rather wet drive down to Lake Ohau to compete in the Generation Open. Lucky for us the weather gods put on a stunning day for the tournament itself!
What a roadie it was! Plenty of banter and laughs were had all round, plenty of BBQ meat and pies were consumed, a few fish spotted, and some discs lost, but all that made for the many memories we've walked away with, and a few we suspect will stick around and haunt those for some time to come.
Few special mentions:
-Jimmy not only slept through his alarms but also through Dwayneβs heavy fists banging on his front door, to put everyone at least half an hour behind schedule before we even departed Christchurch.
-Dwayne was the only one to lose disc(s), Yes more than one over the weekend. And was more interested in the fish in the pond than helping the rest of us look for his own discs later that evening on the recovery attempt with torches in hand! (they were glow discs...)
-Mark woke the entire camp up with an early morning coughing fit. (5am) Jimmy could have probably done with that the previous morningβ¦
It also turns out the great idea of tenting in the -3-degree overnight temps is less than desirable and although it may have given more character to the experience, itβs safe to say the team will be upgrading their accommodation next time around! Haha.
However, it was all worth it to play on a one-of-a-kind course with the backdrop of such majestic views of lake Ohau and the surrounding ranges. The course in brief is short but technical with elevation and lines of play quite different to the local Christchurch courses we are familiar with.
With that said we crowned not one but two! Champions from our team in their respective divisions! Dwayne took down his first win in the MA2 division in a 2nd round come back. Whilst Mark also claimed him first win in the MA40 division fairly comfortably after posting a hot first round score. Special mention also goes out to Timmy, who took 2nd place in the MA40 division as well! Overall everyone placed within the top 10/ half of their divisions, and this would be one of the most successful tournaments to date for the team!
A huuuge shout out goes to Generation Disc Golf for putting on this well run event which we are more than eager to attend again next year, wherever that may be!
Next of the cards is the Charteris Bay Clash this coming weekend! Where we are looking to get a few more jerseys on the podiums!
