🏁 Have your say on Baypark Speedway's future!

Tauranga City Council is asking for the community’s views on two options for Mercury Baypark Stadium:

Option 1: Extend speedway to 2039 - Speedway Racing Ltd buys North Stand for $1, invests in major improvements, Council saves on maintenance costs and gets lease revenue. Speedway gets dedicated corner of site with new facilities. Council invests ~$6m in new carpark for whole Baypark site.

Option 2: Current agreement ends 2029 - Explore alternative community/commercial uses after 2029. No immediate funding allocated for redevelopment, future planning and investment required.

Hi guys, started out a great night, Heat 1 12th to 8th
Heat 3 1st to 2nd. Starting off grid 6 for the feature.
First lap of the feature saw Daniel Thomas have a huge tumble.
Restart we rode a wheel coming out of turn 2 hitting the wall head on. Wall won.
One very lucky lad, as 2 neck and 3 back breaks. Things got extremely scary in the early hours of the morning with hematoma's in the neck arteries. CT scan thankfully showed no severed artery just swelling from the breaks.
Surgery and quite a recovery ahead. Probably not out of the woods yet but looking better than last night.

Frustating update, we have been chasing braking and throttle issues since tagging the wall at baypark speedway a couple of meetings ago. Feeling we had them sorted we headed to Kihikihi speedway last night. On a positive brakes are sorted , car felt good but throttle was still an issue. 2x DNFs chose not to run the feature.

Friday night saw the 93m team head to Baypark for the Piston Cup. Qualifying fifth in the dash was as good as it got, with two DNFs due to braking issues. What an awesome meeting with such fast-paced racing.

Happy New Year from the 93m team!

On the 30th we attended Our final meeting at Baypark Speedway for 2024 and they probably served us up the best track of the season so far. It was wide and on the fence, made for exciting racing. We had a blast!

Heat 2: 10th -7th
Heat 3: 3rd - 3rd

Which stuck us P4 for the feature. Off to a good start we ran 3rd for majority of the race, and we had good momentum throughout, car in P1 tangled with a lapped car which brought on a caution and he was deemed the cause and sent to the rear, so we were restarting off the front row. With 4 laps to go got slid by a car which also let another get passed slid him back into the next corner just hit the cushion a little too hard and flighted the front hit the wall and just like that our race was over. All in all plenty of positives to take away. The little -12 was running really hot all night and sustained a bit of damage at the end, so we will regroup and hopefully come back stronger!

Due to driver illness unfortunately the 93m Sprint car won't make Baypark Speedway tonight. We will be at the next meeting on 30th December. Best of luck to all the drivers. Disappointed as a great field tonight.

Well after a rough couple of meetings to start the season, we finally got some good consistent laps last night at Baypark Speedway Our first heat 9-5th second heat 2-4th giving us grid 7 for the feature. Unfortunately lap 9 I got up over the cush and picked up a nice chunk of premium orange clay, jamming up the tie rod, tearing the steering arm off the left front stub axle, which broke brake rotor locking wheel. Awesome nights racing.

Was a bit of a mere for the team tonight.
We had a massive down pour right before our first heat, but a respectable effort from the openwheelers to get the track back.

H1 was super heavy and rutty and we just really struggled with car.

H2 we got in a tangle first corner, simple case of too many cars not enough room. Sustained too much damage to carry on

H3 we started from the rear of the feature. Picking cars off here and there I think we were running somewhere inside the top 10. Until a piece of debris found its way too my helmet. Unfortunately went for a bit of a sleep and came to parked in the wall.

Thanks too everyone for the messages. Feeling a bit better now. That will see us out for 22 days due to the knock out.

🌧⛈ Hey Race Fans,

Unfortunately, we’ve had to make the early decision to postpone this weekend’s event due to the persistent forecast of heavy rain expected tomorrow evening, despite the clear skies in the morning.

Fortunately, we’ve secured a rain date for Sunday, the 27th, and all pre-purchased tickets will remain valid for the new date.
Gates will still open at 4:30 PM, with racing kicking off at 6:30 PM.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather over the next 24 hours and will update you via our social media channels, website, and phone line if anything changes for Sunday.
