The best for last (unless another team joins of course). The defending champs are back to defend their 2025 Alpine Flag Blitz title! Headlined by many of the U20’s Canterbury nationals team who came away undefeated at 2026 nationals, they look to repeat history. These dudes have plenty of 2QB action and some clutch defense, which they hope can lead them to back to back titles. After a controversial championship game last go around, they will rely on their star power and depth to remind everyone who they are.

Introducing….AFC JUNIORS

The young guns are coming to Lancaster! Theses dudes are Canterbury’s youngest and brightest players who have been working on their games and learning the fundamentals! After making the Nationals final this year where they were one drive away from hoisting the trophy, these guys have already seen it all. Like Drake said, each player can say I’m the rookie and the vet. They’ll be competing against Powder Puff Girls and the Wāhine Honey-Badgers to finish the job this time.

Introducing….TITANS

These dudes are gonna be working to do a lot more winning than the team in Tennessee. Formed my the Godfather of NZ Flag football, Ariel Metekingi, this squad is going to be stronger than titan-ium. Accompanied by his Canterbury legends QB, former Nelson QB and the NZ mens head coach, Myke Fabela, this duo is aiming to walk away with their second championship trophy of the year. Can their combination of IQ, experience and skill lead to the glory? We shall see in a little over 3 weeks.

Introducing…. HONEYBADGERS WĀHINE!

Some of this squad joined forces with Hawkes bay at the most recent NZ nationals and came away with a solid top 5 finish! A mixture of experience and rookies in this squad, all training hard and excited to come up against the some quality competition. Nelson showing up in strong force with 2 teams spreading across two grades. Let’s see how these badgers hunt in their debut appearance at the Alpine Flag Blitz!

Introducing…. POWDER PUFF GIRLS!

These girls are some of Aotearoa’s youngest superstars who are making their team debut at the Alpine Flag Blitz. After many of their players had their first Nationals experience this season, they not only earned a bronze medal, but also had several players selected for New Zealand’s national team, who travelled to LA to compete against the world. The powder puff girls look to make a statement and show off their star power in under one month’s time.

Assembled by New Zealand Flag legend and 2025 AFC Summer League MVP, DT, the Canterbury battlers are ready for war. Their lineup is packed with savy vets, up and comers on the Canterbury flag scene, all combining to fight for the ultimate victory. Some great athletes who are ready to show off their speed and agility, with soldiers who have a plethora of football IQ and experience. These soldiers are prepared for glory, ready for war on the Lancaster grounds.

With a trophy cabinet that boasts an unfathomable amount gold medals at nationals, international representative players, and an elite programme that grows winners, these guys are ready to take over. Led by Canterbury and NZ flag football coaching legends Craig and Tim, the Youth look to add another notch on their decorated winners belt.

Introducing…. FLYING WOMBATS

Despite their team name, don’t mistake them for Aussies. These are some of New Zealand’s most elite young stars! This roster is loaded with internationally experienced players who boast of several national championships, playing in LA and Australia itself. The wombats made their team debut in the Christchurch summer league, winning all of their pool play games and finishing top 3. Now, they look to soar to their first title as a group in their swaggy teal and black reversible jerseys, complete with nicknames on their back! All these dudes do is win, and they look to do so in September’s alpine flag blitz.

Introducing…. NELSON HONEY BADGERS

Oh the honey badgers are just craaaazy! Whether it’s got a snake, chasing a jackal, or duelling top teams in the country, the Honey badgers don’t care! After appearing in every alpine final since 2023, they look to finally finish the job this time. Fresh off of a final four appearance at nationals, those from the top of the South Island are ready to carry this momentum down to Ōtautahi. The roster is stacked with experienced studs and young stars. Like the honey badger, these ballers are going hunting, and they are hungry to capture their first alpine championship.

The pack are out to hunt, and this time they are travelling down South to make their second appearance at the Alpine flag blitz! The boys from the capital are fresh off a top 3 podium finish at this year’s Nationals. Now, they are looking to change their medal from a bronze to one which matches the gold on their jersey.
