23/24 season wrapped up. It was a slightly shorter season for us due to the massive amount of work we took on over the off season. Despite that we still managed to make the most of the season we had, competing at 6 different tracks all over NZ and a good chunk of meetings.

Took a few meetings to get the hang of the big changes we’d made to the car, but when it all started coming together we were extremely happy with the progress made, picking up a handful of race wins 🏁 and overall big steps forward from previous seasons. I’m hoping to keep building on that for a massive season next season! Huge thanks to Glen Leech for all his support and guidance, travelling country wide with his family. He’s been the key factor in the progress we’ve made this season 👌🏼.

The car won’t be getting a huge amount of work, just a general steel tidy up and the motor will go back to Midwest Motors for Graeme to work more of his magic. Huge season planned next season with 3 major titles being on my favourite tracks, so super excited for that. Unfortunately on the teams racing side of things we didn’t get much this season, but credit to our manager Geoff for all his effort trying to make it happen.

Quick update of our season so far❗️

Started our season off with the 2 biggest individual race meetings of the year, NZ champs and the World 240s. Didn’t have unrealistic expectations going into these meetings with the amount of changes we’ve made to the car, it was all about trial and error to try get the car in a window where we can start moving forward. Although the results didn’t show, we were happy with the progress we made from the start of NZs to the end of the 240s!

We then made a quick trip up to Nelson to get more time in the seat. Managed to iron out a few little issues and overall was happy with the results and how the car felt. Will definitely be back a few more times before our NZ title there next season 👌🏼.

The new look 85G all set to go! 😮‍💨

Absolutely stoked with how this rebuild has turned out … been a massive amount of work but seeing the finished product definitely makes it worth it. Can’t wait to get behind the wheel again.

Been a while since our last update but a lot has been happening over the off season. Unfortunately we won’t be at Gisborne’s opening night tonight, but wish all our Gisborne club mates the best for tonight!

The new look 85G Superstock is coming along nicely, the new rollcage is 90% complete with just a few more hours of welding to be done. We have our engine back from Midwest Motors and are stoked with the performance gains that have been made. Now just waiting on a few more exhaust parts for our new exhausts to then be made.

We have made other upgrades/updates to the car such as, new suspension pick up points, new Fox shocks package, panel kit, as well as a few other little things that we are excited to try!

Still a big list of jobs to be done, but all going well we are hoping to have the car on track in the next month or so to start our season.

What a weekend at Huntly Teams! 💥

Ended the season on a massive high, finally managing to get into some teams racing with the boys in the Gisborne Giants development team 💯.

Ended up 4th overall after a strong win against the Waikato Wanderers and 2 losses against the Gisborne Giants and the Kihikihi Kings. Although we didn’t quite get the job done in our final 2 races we definitely gave it 110% and have a lot to build on for the future 👌🏼.

Huge thanks to our managers Geoff and Steve, as well as Pete and everyone else involved behind the scenes to make it happen. Proud to be representing such an awesome club!

Also massive thanks to my crew Dad, Kev, Ryan, Jaimie. They sacrifice a lot to make it possible for me to go racing, definitely couldn’t do it without them 🙏🏼. Special thanks to Glen Leech too for making the trip up to help and for everything he’s done for us this season. There has been a lot of others that have helped us along the way too with places to store the car, workshops to work on the car etc, so big thanks to everyone who’s helped along the way.

Overall first season with the G has been the best yet! Unfortunately haven’t managed to get as many meetings in as we hoped due to rain outs and ferry’s but super stoked with what we did manage to do and the experience gained. The car will now be pulled apart for a much needed birthday and some upgrades, will post updates during the off season.

Finally got on the boat last minute and made the hike up to our home track Gisborne for their Champ of Champs meeting.

Awesome effort by the club to get the meeting done despite some heavy rain on the track. Everyone chipped in and turned out one of the best tracks I’ve raced on!

Not a bad night’s racing with a 9th from grid 15, 5th from grid 8 and was leading the last race for a couple of laps until the throttle unfortunately jammed open so went for a bit of a ride 💥🫣. Overall was a great weekend with awesome people 👌🏼.

Massive thanks to Steve McCafferty from McCafferty Metal Cartage for his hospitality, giving us a place to wash and work on the car.

Another big thanks to Glen Leech and the whole Leech family for their help getting my car ready at such short notice, as well as at the track as my crew couldn’t make it 🍻.

NZ champs 2023! 🔥

Was good to finally be back in the seat after multiple rain outs in a row.

Qualifying was a mixed bag with grids 9, 18, 3. Getting spun in the first race recovering to come home 12th, then having 2 solid heats getting an 8th and a 4th. This left me 7th in my group and on grid 13 for the repocharge on Saturday.

Finals on Saturday started well going from grid 13 to 4th in the repocharge, thanks to some blocking from club mate Tyler James. Unfortunately just missing out this left us in tier 2 for the rest of the night. Had grids 7, 20, and 14. Had 2 good first heats getting a 7th and a 4th, then was running 2nd in the last heat and got some attention resulting in a dnf. Unfortunate way to end the weekend but that’s racing!

We had planned to do the North island champs in Stratford next week, but unfortunately we are unable to get on the ferry so we will have to wait and see where we can race next 🏁🤞🏼

Been abit quiet in the 85G camp the last month or so! 🌧️

On the 5th of November we headed to Gisborne speedway for our 3rd meeting of the season. Managed to put together 3 decent races getting the hang of a very fast track.

We were all set to finally get some teams racing in, first for the Gisborne Giants Development team at the Huntly team’s invitation, and then for the Gisborne Giant’s at Palmy’s superstock teams extravaganza. Unfortunately both these meetings were rained out 😑. Fingers crossed we get another opportunity to go teams racing later in the season!

Now the focus turns to the NZ title in Huntly early next month.

Massive weekend to open the 2022/2023 season!

Saturday night we headed to Robertson Holden International Speedway for their opening night. Struggled slightly with figuring out the track but overall wasn’t a bad night with a 9th, dnf and 11th.

Sunday night we made the trip down to Wellington Family Speedway for their opening night. Felt like I was getting the hang of things again after a long 6 months off! Finishing up with a 14th, 8th and 4th.

Quick shout out to Jamie Hamilton for doing such a mint job on our new trailer, stoked with how it turned out. 😮‍💨
