Femme Fit 50

Femme Fit 50 Cambridge's group fitness & wellness hub for women. We're so much more than just a gym!

Heather McEwen and Amanda Vosper are well-known local businesswomen who have long supported the Cambridge community. In 1979, their mothers, Pat McEwen, and Dee Vosper, opened a clothing boutique on Empire St that catered for women of all ages; however, their focus was to inspire the more mature woman to feel confident, empowered and look their best. At Femme Fit 50, Heather and Amanda have drawn

on the inspiration of their mothers to create a gym that provides a safe and comfortable environment in which women are confident to make positive changes to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health. Femme Fit 50’s philosophy is based on the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi – the appreciation of beauty in all things, imperfection, incompleteness, and impermanence. Related to human beings, the idea of wabi sabi can be understood as appreciation and contemplation of something that becomes more beautiful as it ages. An ancient form of art stems from wabi-sabi, whereby you mend broken objects with gold fillings, giving them “golden scars.” It’s known as Kintsugi. Kintsugi reminds us that there is great beauty in broken things because scars tell a story. They demonstrate fortitude, wisdom, and resilience, earned through the passage of time. Why hide these imperfections or golden scars when we are meant to celebrate them?
