Auckland’s coastline is being restored following Cyclone Gabrielle, with safety, sustainability and collaboration at the centre of delivery.
Programmed has completed Phase 1 of a coastal fencing project delivered for Auckland Council, following a design developed by reNature and Auckland Council’s Landscape team, with input from a wide range of technical specialists and cultural advisors.
The works included the removal and replacement of approximately 600 metres of coastal fencing, delivered in accordance with Heritage Authority approvals, resource consent conditions, and Tree Owner requirements.
A ground screw solution was used in sensitive areas to reduce environmental impact and protect ecological and cultural values, while enabling a more resilient coastal edge.
The design also supports more than 1200 square metres of future native planting, strengthening long term erosion protection and biodiversity outcomes.
Phase 2 planting and regeneration works are now underway.
Artistic panels will be installed once fabrication is complete, following a controlled weathering process applied to Corten steel to achieve the specified finish.
