Marching Auckland Since 1948 Marching Auckland (MA) has been the local sports organisation for the administration and participation of Marching across Auckland.

We're on a mission to nurture, showcase and celebrate a modern marching community for Tamaki Makaurau Auckland Marching for sport, leisure and recreation is an activity with embryonic beginnings in New Zealand. Marching is an amateur sport in New Zealand that offers participants a strong sense of team spirit and self-discipline. It heightens powers of concentration and physical fitness, encourages

good deportment, pride in grooming and personal achievement and offers musical enjoyment, life long friendships and opportunities of travel. Mission:
To contribute to the health and well-being of all New Zealanders by providing, promoting and fostering marching as a disciplined and an organised sport with a difference. Vision:

The Organisation:

Formed in the 1940's to promote, encourage and control participation in the sport of Marching. The name of the national organisation was changed in 1997 from New Zealand Marching Association (NZMA) to Marching New Zealand (MNZ), with emphasis on governance of the sport and operational management being conducted at local Association level under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer. The Board of Marching New Zealand has been proactive in its approach to the governance of the sport. The Strategic Plan is flexible and reviewed regularly by the Board to ensure it reflects the ongoing strategic direction of the organisation. Details behind the Strategic Plan are implemented each year through the Annual Business / Operating Plan. It has a clearly defined set of performance measures (based around quantity and quality) that are subject to monitoring and regular review. The organisation operates on a sound financial base with accumulated funds. It derives its operating income from membership subscriptions, grants from national sports funding organisations, sponsorship and fund-raising ventures.

Board Member – Applications Now Open

Marching New Zealand (MNZ) is calling for nominations to fill a Board Member. This is an opportunity to contribute at a governance level and support the ongoing leadership and strategic direction of MNZ.

📄 How to apply - Read carefully as this differs from board appointed positions
Nominees must complete a Board Nomination Form and Nomination Précis, along with a photo.

✅ These documents must be submitted to the nominee’s Association, who will then choose who they'll put forward to the MNZ Board for consideration.

Have Your Say & Shape the Future of Our Sport

Be part of a new Membership Growth Working Group.

Marching New Zealand is inviting Expressions of Interest from passionate, energetic individuals who want to help grow our sport across Aotearoa.

We’re looking for people who don’t just have ideas, but are ready to turn those ideas into action within their regions, helping to build momentum, connect communities, and drive participation.

We are looking to increase awareness across New Zealand so we strongly encourage interest from our current Associations but also from those outside current structures, including individuals connected to regions where we’re looking to rebuild and strengthen participation—such as Manawatū, Nelson, and Northland.

We’re particularly looking for people who:
⚡ Are passionate about the future of marching
⚡ Have the time and energy to actively contribute
⚡ Are motivated to lead or support initiatives in their region
⚡ Can engage and inspire others to get involved
⚡ Bring fresh thinking and new perspectives

We also want to ensure we’re not overloading those already wearing multiple hats, and instead create space for new voices and emerging leaders to step forward.

📌 There are limited spaces on the working party, but there will be wider opportunities to be involved and support initiatives as they roll out.
