This is the first time anything like this has been created specifically for the Optimist class. A complete, step-by-step training system built from the ground up for young sailors who want to improve – and for families who want to support them without the stress.
When I was starting out, there was no clear path. You learnt by watching others at your club, picking up the odd nugget from Yachts & Yachting magazine, and muddling through the rest. These days, young sailors have access to more information than ever… but that doesn’t always mean clarity. In fact, the more advice flying around, the harder it is to know what actually works, and in what order.
That’s exactly why we built the Optimist Edition of Road To Gold.
It takes everything Hamish Willcox has learned from coaching Olympic, America’s Cup and SailGP champions, and translates it into a clear, structured roadmap especially for Optimist sailors. 12 modules, released weekly, each building on the last, so you always know what to focus on next.
It’s packed with practical tools: checklists, templates, drills you can use on the water right away. And it’s all delivered by top Optimist coaches Ton Thörn and Pablo Ruiz, who've already helped young sailors reach the top of the podium.
