Make Arapuni weir a surfing facility There's potential for a good wave already existing at low water flows. Please like and share to supp worth a try!

I DO NOT endorse surfing the Arapuni weir at the moment as:

1- It's now illegal - see bylaw below.

2- There's no warning of the water level rising, check the photos - its extremely dangerous at high flow! However, if this pulls off it could be awesome for:
- Kayaking
- Surfing
- SUPing
- Body boarding
- Body surfing? At this stage it'll only be surfable at mid - low flows, however with some test

2.10 Hydro dam Safety
2.10.1 On the Waikato River,3
all water from 200 metres
upstream to 200 metres downstream of a hydro dam
structure unless otherwise specified in Schedule 1, is
a prohibited zone for:
a) all vessels; with the exception: of any vessel
authorised by the dam operators and that is
being used for maintenance purposes; or any
vessel authorised by the Council; and
b) all other water-based activities, including
jumping, diving or swimming. Note: Any skipper or person using any hydro lake
should be aware at all times that the water levels and
flows can change without notice, and should keep a
watch out at all times for hazards (including submerged
trees and rocks).

Update: It appears the first small presentation to the mayor and CEO went well. However it's early days and there's a number of hurdles to jump over which the South Waikato district council are currently looking into.

Exciting phone conversation with the mayor of South Waikato. It's in their plan to look at the idea and they're going to be talking with mighty river power soon. Who knows?!....
