MYTHBUSTERS: it’s a common misconception that we are told our knees should not go over our toes when we squat... Why? Dr. Google isn’t always right.

You can perform safe and effective squats in both positions as we see In the picture.

Two things you should take note of:

1️⃣ your squat positioning should factor in your body’s anthropometry (limb/torso lengths), your physical goals, and if one position causes you pain and the other doesn’t — do the one that’s pain free!

2️⃣ the knee-forward squat allows one to keep torso more upright. BOTH positions you can see a flat back and neutral spine. If any pain is felt in the low back during a hinge-squat, try the traditional and let your knees slide forward (as long as they stay in line with your toes)
