DO WE REALLY NEED TO WEAR OIL?
Is it raining cats and dogs? Then it’s pretty damn nice to have something that’s 100% waterproof for hours on end, like a shell jacket or traditional oilskins.
And by all means, clothes made from plastic (oil) have some seriously good qualities. We’re not here to knock them. They’re lightweight, can take a beating, and can be both windproof and waterproof. We use them ourselves (once in a blue moon).
But what about sunny days? Or a bit of drizzle? A hike in the woods? Does your jacket really need to be made from oil?
We’re not so sure.
What we’re a little puzzled by is that plastic clothing has become the norm for all kinds of use, especially outdoor activities. Fortunately, we can see things are changing. More and more people are discovering just how comfortable and functional natural materials can be. They don’t leave you feeling clammy and wet from the inside in the same way, they feel much better against your skin, and they look better.
That’s why we’ve made outerwear in Ventile cotton. A tightly woven, durable and surprisingly weather-resistant natural material. And cotton lasts. It can handle a lot of use, is easier to repair, and actually just gets better with age. Marks, wrinkles and wear become part of the story.
Besides, even though there are some real dilemmas around this, we believe in building a future with as little plastic as possible. Especially when natural materials perform better in use. But don’t take our word for it. See what some of our customers have to say here:
