Sailors.
The autumn regatta season has started with a nice sunny afternoon with shifting lights winds, 5 to 10 knots from north north-west. The day started with rigging of sail and boats and the extra time this takes and with start at Mariero, it was just in time for us. Starting sequence had started when we reached the starting area. THERT was skippered by BP and POD by Rob. Both boats did not have a good start at the starboard mark on the starting line, but came out of the somewhat chaotic start ok and kept to the port side of the track. With a big wind shift to left half way up the course it became one tack race to the top mark. POD was first or second to the top mark, putting all the Melges’s behind them. POD got the Gennaker up nicely after the top mark and sprinted down the leg chased by the Melges’s. THERT also did a good upwind leg and turned the top mark early. With a new crew and first time gennaker sailing it went smoodly. Both POD and THERT has a one tack leg down to the dogleg. The Melges’s was catching up on POD in the race. It is hard to say, if POD was first or second over the finish line, but won the race on rating. Good job. THERT was overtaken in the last part of the race by the last Melges in the fleet in the end of the race. THERT cleared the bottom mark very well, but they did not jibe the gennaker, but sailed cross the finish line on main and jib. THERT ended on a 6th place in the sport class. Good results for both boats. The race day was cut short due to light winds, the last regatta was abandoned. Thank you all sailors for a nice day on the fjord.
