Have you ever put self care on the back burner? Well, I did for a number of weeks and it came back to bite me in the butt.
Being a coach is one of the many hats I wear, alongside being a mom, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and professional. And even though Iām a coach, Iām also a human and not immune to making mistakes. Last month I temporarily lost sight of how important it is to maintain my own mental and pyhsical health.
The agenda was full and things āneededā to get done, so taking it easy and making time for myself kept getting put off. For weeks, I stopped exercising, doing things I wanted to do and put off making my own doctorās appointments. Every day was packed to the max with āTo Dosā! (is this ringing a bell with anyone?)
The result? My blood pressure skyrocketed, I was overly emotional and I started losing feeling in part of my face. Because I wasnāt making self care and a priority.
After some long conversations, I realized it was time to re-prioritize. To go back to the drawing board and look at what truly matters to me. The balance I had worked hard to achieve felt far away, and it was up to me to get it back. I donāt want self-neglect to become my norm again - been there before and promised myself I wouldnāt go down that road again.
So I left the laundry and went for a walk. Made space and time for myself. Called the dr. Had honest conversations with myself about self care and self love.
I doubted whether to share this, but decided to do it. Not for sympathy ā but because maybe this rings a bell with someone else and serves as a reminder to care for yourself, even when stress is high and life is busy.
Make and keep yourself a priority. You are not replaceable to your family, friends or loved ones. Stop putting it off. Today is the day and you are worth it!
